McKew - the unbiased 7:30 reporter - writes.

Post by Rorschach » Mon Oct 29, 2012 2:26 pm

Maxine McKew's tome re poor old Kevin has hit the shelves. Will is be as "unbiased" as her reporting and presenting of the past - as an ABC reporter and presenter?

Will she deny any bias?

Or like Kernot will the real Maxine shine through? Of course now she cannot deny or hide her political bias, she has flaunted it, danced it... across out TV screens in 2 elections.

Graham Richardson tells us she's got it wrong re Gillard. Rob Oakeshott agrees. Well as much as I hate to admit agreeing with Oakeshott, (on anything), I have to admit i always thought Gillard was a somewhat reluctant draft into the Prime Ministership during the first coup against Rudd.

I was glad they got rid of Rudd, but then I've always known about Kevin.
Maxine may find no one cares anymore…

It looks like the statute of limitations on “the knifing of Rudd” might have expired. For years one of the things often cited by voters not keen on Julia Gillard was that they didn’t like the way she got the job.

The coup against Kevin Rudd back in 2010 was so swift, so bloody, so brutal, it’s taken the electorate quite some time to recover. But it looks like that recovery might be on the upswing.

It’s been three weeks since the last Newspoll and in that three weeks two things have dominated the political debate - the “gender wars”, which climaxed with Gillard’s world-famous attack on Tony Abbott, and Maxine McKew’s book.

McKew’s thesis, that the demise of Rudd was not a “spontaneous combustion” but in fact was the culmination of a plot, could have done Gillard a lot more damage in the past.

In spite of two weeks now of leaks from the book, endless examination of the implications on political panel shows, official extracts, and now interviews with the author herself, the Newspoll conducted this weekend provided some of the best polling news for the Government since Gillard cobbled it together more than two years ago - Labor and the Coalition locked at 50-50 two party preferred. Well I wouldn't be taking any comfort in that poll result. Remember the one 2 polls ago, it disappeared rapidly too.

According to The Australian:

According to the latest Newspoll survey, taken exclusively for The Australian over the weekend, Labor’s primary vote rose from 33 per cent to 36 per cent over the past three weeks, while the Coalition’s support fell from 45 per cent to 41 per cent. The Greens remained unchanged on 10 per cent.

Satisfaction with Ms Gillard has remained virtually unchanged, falling from 36 per cent three weeks ago to 35 per cent on the weekend. The Opposition Leader’s personal support dropped from 33 per cent to 30 per cent and dissatisfaction rose three points to 58 per cent. Both leaders are essentially back to where they were halfway through last month.

It should certainly be enough to shut Kevin Rudd up for a while.

It’s no wonder GIllard looked so happy sticking to her “I don’t comment on polls” line during various interviews this morning. She doesn’t need to say anything.

You can always tell who’s more stressed about the polls - they’re the ones saying “the only poll that matters is election day.”

This morning it was Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop spinning Newspoll with grabs such as: “we expect them to move around”... “vicious character assassination on Tony Abbott”... “The polls that count - that is on election day.” Now that is the truth...

McKew said this morning her topic still had legs.

“I think there will be many more books about it.”

Whether anyone will buy them is another matter.

McKew (and O'Brien) were so far left leaning it is a wonder they didn't fall off their chairs! I won't be reading McKew's book.

The Newspoll thing is ..... ridiculous. 50:50 this week 46:54 last. You know who they ring to ask don't you? I had a call (first time ever) some while ago from one of those lot (Nielsen?) and after introducing themselves they asked to speak to anyone in the household aged from 18 to 35!!! So there you go. People between those ages are probably more likely to not read/listen to the news. This is all they are interested in "texting". :rofl

The only real poll is election day as they say.
I often wonder about the pollsters. They seem to be as "scientific" and "accurate" as reading entrails.
i wonder what they are up to. Surely they couldn't be trying to lead opinion... could they?

I gave up on the ABC - and most of the rest of the mainstream media - almost 20 years ago.

They're nothing but political shills pretending to "report" the news. I prefer honest people who admit to their bias.
