MOSCOW — A Moscow judge sentenced three members of the provocative punk band Pussy Riot to two years in prison on hooliganism charges on Friday following a trial seen around the world as an emblem of Russia's intolerance of dissent.

What a repressive place to be. I would hate to live there. You need to be in a controlling mafia to stand a chance.

Russia has a long way to go. It is a pity that the transition from communism was handled so badly and unfairly. Now wealth is the only power. I thought the previous doctorine didn't care for church so what's the hang-up nowadays.

It is designed to send a message. I wonder how Iggy and Sid would have gone singing "Good Save Putin... he's not a human being..." if the Sex Pistols were in Russia today. If England could tolerate it... so should the Russians. This shows the difference between a real democracy and the pretend one in Russia. Where is the freedonm promised?

Meh..they knew what they were doing was illegal in their country and they did it to be provocative and attract attention.

If they want to use shock tactics as the marketing arm for their shitty music then they need to accept the consequences of their actions
