Have you got a spare room at your house?

Post by mantra » Thu May 03, 2012 3:00 am

Would you take in an asylum seeker for $300 a week? The government has run out of accommodation for the thousands of boat people fleeing here and is looking for Australians to give these unfortunate people "temporary" accommodation.

They'll be given a security check, but are us Aussies big hearted enough to take a foreign and traumatised stranger into our home?

This offer will be exploited by the unscrupulous of course. We'll see a rise in private boarding houses which will largely be ignored until there's a tragedy.
THE federal government will pay families up to $300 a week to temporarily house asylum seekers in their homes to help deal with the increasing flood of arrivals.

With the Immigration Department now facing a potential shortage of community housing to accommodate detainees who are being released into the community, the government has turned to householders for help.

...............

Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison slammed the plan, claiming it confirmed the government had reached the point of desperation: "Labor's decision to house adult male asylum seekers released on bridging visas in the spare rooms of Australian families is a desperate, reckless policy from a government that has lost control.

"When Australians expressed concern about rising costs of living, this was not an invitation for Julia Gillard to supplement household incomes by offering to pay the rent on your spare room or granny flat for asylum seekers.

"The fact Australian families are now being asked to house asylum seekers who have arrived illegally by boat, including those whose claims have been rejected, shows just how desperate Labor have become over their failed border protection policies which have seen almost 17,000 people now arrive on 301 boats."

Rudd was the one who changed the status of asylum seekers - not the Greens, although they probably will support this scheme. We should be looking after our mentally ill, homeless and destitute before we make refugees our number one priority, although this scheme will save the government some money.

I noticed in last year's census that we had to stipulate how many bedrooms we had in our house and thought perhaps one day we'll be called upon by the government to utilise our spare rooms if we didn't have full occupancy.

Send the boats back, we all know that they are not genuine asylum seekers.
And those so-called children (under 18) have bigger moustaches and beards than Cousin It and Santa, even the so called women!!!

Besides the stupid GALP are buying motel accommodation for them! As afterall the GALP don't give a stuff about the costs or the Asutralian economy.

When your newly arrived refugee lodgers (aka freeloaders) kids start calling you 'Da,hadda' (This opposed to dadda) be scared.

:rofl

On a serious note, I refuse to accommodate queue jumpers who throw their papers overboard on their illegal journey to Australia, this said, the opportunities are limitless for the the right land-lord, say Aussie for instance who has been black-listed from every mail-order bridal service world wide.

Just when you come home from work and find a milking-goat tethered to your front veranda, don't complain.

The so-called traumatised youth in Canberra are Somalis and are currently traumatising the locals because they think we are "racist". As far as I am aware, the parents of these kids are OK but the children are ganging together, wagging school, and becoming a nuisance. We are talking Primary School age kids, not teenagers! Probably under 5 families involved but Blacks -v- Whites. :b

Authorities tend to back off due to the "racist" comments and connotation.

Do we really want to go down the way that the UK has?

What, Mantra, are the war-torn countries that we should accept asylum seekers from? African? Middle East? Name the countries, please!
