Katter knows his market.

But seriously? The gay lobby wants to put themselves into the political arena, but complains when someone dares to be openly against their agenda?

Prima donnas.

Agreed.

I saw this exact same article title used regarding this story in yahoo news.

Gay marriage ad backfires on Katter

And the reason it has supposedly 'backfired' is ..
But instead of achieving its goal, the ad has sparked outrage among Queensland's gay and lesbian community and support groups.
Sounds more like a case of wishful thinking to me, because the queer lobby was bound to have hissy fits anyway, and Newman's career in state politics is over before it has begun.
So rather than backfiring, it appears the add has achieved precisely what it was meant to do.

While Katter himself somewhat reminds me of the redneck preacher from the Porkies movies, I had to laugh when reading in the local rag, Katter said on radio "If your sons don't kill animals, they're gay"

Meanwhile Bligh's crew are trashing Newman's reputation with this sort of stuff >

The ad certainly wasn't politically correct. It will be interesting to see how well Katter goes in the election. He might just get an overwhelming response as Queensland has a bit of a reputation for being redneck territory. If people are as dissatisfied with Labor as they claim and Campbell Newman (LNP) has turned into a bit of a dud, we might just see Katter end up with a lot of power. He has remnants of Joh Bjelke-Petersen in him.

Political Correctness suffers from its own hypocritical absurdities, so naturally incites cultural backlash. Ironically, while in the Greens I would often come under attack from the anti-smoking squad for criticizing the ban everything brigade's desire to reform us evil doers by force via prohibition, and it was a gay Brisweigan who often agreed with my arguments, stating he hates political correctness.

No doubt about it. Katter is very popular through out vast parts of Redneck Wonderland.

Only weeks ago I would have written Captain Bligh's Labor admin off, with its constant Health dept scandals and cover ups to cover up the cover ups, plus the flood disaster bungling, not to mention Kweensland's govt is constantly ramping up fees and charges while looking for endless ways to introduce new fees and charges. Like swimming pool registration for example. Kid you not.
But now that former Brisvagas Lord Mayor Newman's nepotism and dodgey financial dealing are under the spot light, the worm has turned.

Quite possibly. He already has a lot of influence as it is, in a Pauline Hanson sort of way.

You you you, don't you worry about that. :P

Surprising how many people don't realise Sir Joh Bkelkie Peanut-farmer wasn't even Australian.

EDIT ADDITION - I'll just put Arsie's spelling nazi cap on for a sec, Kweensland's inbred Kiwi premier's name was Pedersen.

Indeed. But... it didn't say anything offensive towards gays. Simply showing an obvious opposition to their agenda was enough to have the harpies screeching "hate speech, hate speech, HATE SPEEEEEEEECH!!!!".

Most people don't see the need for gay marriage, when civil unions will give them all the equality they need.

Frankly, I think that the main reason they demand "marriage" rights (when civil unions would do) is to give their main opposition, the church, a good hard kick in the nads.

Being the brown shirt wearing religious hater that you are, where does that put you?

It puts me where it puts me. I don't hate most religious people, only the organisations.
7.30 report
WARREN ENTSCH: I'm finding in this place that there are those that are absolutely locked in, and they're not going to move. Others are a bit more flexible in their thinking - have some level of discomfort about gay marriage, but are very comfortable with the concept of some sort of a civil partnership arrangement, and I think would support that.

HEATHER EWART: That's certainly the case for some in his own ranks who went on the public record when debate on same-sex marriage first surfaced.

KELLY O'DWYER, LIBERAL BACKBENCHER: I have shared my view in support of civil unions for same-sex couples, and I have also shared my view that there are legal implications that flow from same-sex marriage.

LIBERAL MP: Civil unions, however, should be an alternative.

WARREN ENTSCH: There is no point starting from scratch. I feel that this is something we need to have ready to go should there be the support for it.

HEATHER EWART: In the conversations that you've had, the cross-party conversations, how much support do you think that this bill for civil unions will get?

WARREN ENTSCH: I believe it will get through. I believe it will get through absolutely. Now, this is not a civil unions Bill for the gay community. This is across the spectrum. So any couple, irrespective of gender, who make a decision that they want to have their relationships registered and their commitment acknowledged can do so through this without having to go through the Marriage Act.

ALEX GREENWICH, AUSTRALIAN MARRIAGE EQUALITY: This is an escape route for MPs who feel conflicted on it. Australians want this reform to happen. Delaying it and prolonging it by creating some new scheme to say our relationships and our lives are somewhat different will not make the debate go in away.

SARAH HANSON-YOUNG, GREENS SPOKESMAN: I don't think it will do anything except distract people from the main game.

HEATHER EWART: It could certainly be an escape route and a distraction for those MPs who do find gay marriage one step too far. Marriage equality groups had sought to discourage Warren Entsch from raising the alternative. He has pledged not to introduce the Bill until after there has been a parliamentary vote on gay marriage.

Do do you support gay marriage or oppose it?
