Eisenhower and Nixon were reasonable men. Today's GOP is anything but reasonable.

That someone had to create that list suggests that the narrative for the shut down is going against Obama.

That list is what it is, a list of all the times that Senate Democrats attempted to negotiate with the Republicans over the last several months. It's a counter to the GOP line of bullshit about the Democrats supposedly being unwilling to negotiate. To say otherwise would require a stunning feat of logical contortionism.

I'm not doubting the authenticity of the list, only stating that the existence of it suggests that the democrats have lost the narrative to the republicans and will wear more then their fair share of responsibility for the shutdown.

....just sayin.

Problems with that logic are...

1. Every time the House GOP has tried something like this before against a Democrat Senate and President it ends up biting the GOP in the ass.

2. There's an off-year mid-term election coming up November 5th with several key seats in both the House and Senate up for grabs, which means if popular opinion is even slightly more against the GOP than it is against the DNC that the GOP could end up losing control of the House.

3. According to Gallup and a few other US political polling agencies, the GOP's approval rating right now is at the lowest its been in the party's history.

4. Obama doesn't have to worry a damn bit about any of this coming back on him since he's a second term president and doesn't have to worry at all about reelection. He has absolutely no reason at all to back down from the GOP on this.

The problem with that logic, is that it still hasn't negated the need for the democratic supporters to create that list to try an highlight "the GOP are bastards". Someone obviously thought the message wasnt getting through...or that they were losing the narrative.

To expand a bit on the above...

Point 3, depending on exactly which polling agency you go with the GOP's approval rating is around 26%-28%. That's the lowest approval rating the GOP has had in 159 years since the party's founding in 1854.

Point 4, granted, Obama's approval rating is at the lowest it's ever been at as well. It should be noted that despite this, Barry's 36%-38% puts him a full ten percent ahead of the entire Republican party. Barry is going to come out the other side of this bullshit waaaaay the hell cleaner than the GOP will, especially compared to Tea Party Republicans who currently have approval levels in the mid-teens.

Not so much "Republicans are bastards" as a direct challenge to the Republican lie that the Democrats ae unwilling to meet with the GOP and negotiate a settlement to this dispute.

Someone obviously thought the message wasnt getting through...or that they were losing the narrative.
Ok, I see what your getting at, and you're pretty much spot on. The DNC has always had a problem with getting a coherrent and effective narrative across. Party because the DNC's intra party politics are straight up fucking Machiavellian in devisive complexity, and party because the GOP tends to rely on the "scream like a retarded howler monkey so no one can hear the other guy" tactic of debate a lot.

Yes, it will be interesting to see who comes out of this with the least amount of blood on them.

I don't believe it's settled yet and release of polling that says the people blame the republicans is but another example trying to rewrite the narrative because someone noticed it wasn't all beer and skittles for Obama.
