I actually think there is no compelling event to change.

if the country wants to be a republic, which I am not sure is what it wants it needs to be done preserving the present system.

Personally, I am not in favour of changing the current system except to give the perception to the world we are a real country that has not ties to Queen and Motherland... ha ha.

However with Boris in Austral suggesting a special relationship with Australia that allows free flow of people for work... we may shoot ourselves in the foot if we are not careful.

Isn't that why Australia voted to keep the current system... no stated benefit for change.

I think there are a couple of pro-republic group that support different models.

Once you become a republic you cannot go back I recon.

I would support being a republic if the head of state was not elected and just took the role as the GG now.

I would not support a republic that had an elected president.... no matter how restricted it's power because being elected give the role power.

I don't see the benefit of being a republic except to formal break ties with the Queen as head of state. That's not necessary and has served us well with the current model. maybe William would disagree.

For all intents and purposes the PM is head of state anyway...
we could just integrate the necessary GG responsibilities with the PMs... minimal intervention and the HOS could be the PM. No republic, no el presidente...

Palmer's Politics once had a good example of how it could be done.
