This is the biggests disaster you could ever expect to put a nuclear powerplant through. It is a worst case senario... you fearmongerers are obviously hoping like hell that it turns out a whole hell of a lot worse than Chernobyl, with all the whine that has been brought already. Yes, there is a place for nuclear energy, Australia more so than any other over-populated, seismically volatile continent on earth.

As for Japan....well, tidal , geothermal, wind... it probably wasn't such a great idea building a nuclear reactor so close to an active volcano...just my opinion.

Nuke fusion technology is improving all the time, but that said, a nuke reactor should never be built near a fault line and should always be fully housed under ground... including all the incidentals such as back up generators and the like.
