If we do default it won't be the end of the world. Worst that will happen is we miss a payment on t-bill dividends. The Republic will still be there.
The coverage makes me feel everyone is lining up on there own side and the greater needs of the nation are secondary. Obama may need to relent in the interest of the whole. I am not sure he is showing the right leadership from what I have seen on late night tele.
Obama doesn't need to do a goddamn thing except stand his ground. This entire fiasco is the fault of House Speaker Boner, Senator Cruz (r-tx), and around two dozen Tea Party representitives who are throwing a tantrum because a bill that was approved by both houses of congress and signed into law by the president is going into effect.

Personally, I hope this shut down lasts right up until the second week of November. That way this bullshit that a small group of republicans pushed for and the rest of the GOP went along with bites them in the ass come House mid-term elections next month.

Never fear, they will all agree to just increase the credit card limit to $xx trillion. Who cares? It's only money that the current lot won't have to worry about.

Wasn't there a saying about "going to hell in a hand basket"?

Been one for the better part of two decades now. What I object to isn't conservative politics, it's that my party has been hijacked by a bunch of goddamn lunatics who are hell bent on ruining conservative politics for everyone.

That's ok.

Keep pretending you are a republican instead of an ashamed democrat.

Chard is right and the Republicans need to have their asses beaten in the next election and lose the House.

Ironically enough you managed to arrive at a key problem in US politics, you just don't know it.

Over time US has gone farther and farther right politically as time moves on. What was "conservative" twenty years ago is today considered "moderate" at best, outright wig-flipped "liberal" at worst. It also helps to understand that the GOP, Republicans, are not a monolithic entity idiologically despite outward appearances.

Specifically speaking I'm a fiscal conservative, economic moderate Eisenhower-style Republican. On issues of budgets and spending I prefere a "less is more" approach, prefering that my government remain lean and efficient with my tax dollars. On social issues I'm a moderate, prefering that other than licensing and tax issues the goverment should always default to a neutral stance in regards to issues of race, sex, and religion as long as the citizen isn't causing objective harm in the exercise of their civil rights. On military issues I'm of an Eisenhower Republican, prefering to stay out of the business of other nations unless asked or it directly effects our national securoty in a demonstrable fashion, though I'd prefer more transparancy in decision making process that leads to use of military force.
