Gillard shouldn't have changed Rudd's original mining tax to a lesser one. We're getting nothing from the current tax, yet would have done very well if Labor had weathered the storm which always happens after a tax is introduced.

Mining is everywhere now and the state Liberals have sacrificed health and the environment to allow mining encroachment into well populated areas. Abbott is pro-mining and doesn't believe they should pay any tax.

Rudd needs to reinstate his original mining tax.

The FBT is a good idea also. The tax office only wants those who claim this 20% reduction in their tax to keep logs. A lowly hospitality worker has to prove any claim over $30 - so there's no reason why everyone shouldn't be subject to the same demands. With the fuss currently being created - it looks like the scheme has been rorted.

Rudd stuffed up! He sat on the Henry Review until weeks before the 2010 election then suddenly announced a 40% Super Profits Tax!

Remember the ad campaign by the miners?

Gillard salvaged what she could from the mess bequeathed her by Rudd. Fuck the Greens and their desire to hurt miners! Remember Gillard led a minority govt? Had to rely on the flaky Greens and the two rural Indies. Why not ask Oaky or Windsor if more could have been done by the mining tax.

Anyway, as the investment by miners winds down they will eventually pay a lot more mining tax, even at the lower prices ruling now.

Yeah—the FBT was rorted and far from helping the local car industry it applied far more to imported cars.

Don’t look to Rudd to fix things tho—that will be left to whoever is made PM when they have to kick Rudd out the PM chair again.

A lot of the gross debt is keeping a liquid market in government securities. Interest rates are low—now is the time to borrow to build infrastructure, revamp the universities etc.
facts please...

You just can have a government that keeps spending like a drunken sailor... Bowen wants to cut spending and build to a surplus, but Rudd just keeps on spending.

Of course.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the Coalition would scrap the carbon tax, the mining tax and would not proceed with the federal government's increase to the humanitarian refugee intake if it wins the election.

My claim that the State Liberals have sacrificed health, the environment and even water to allow mining encroachment is correct.

O'Farrell's mob have changed an environmental and health policy to favour Rio Tinto in their appeal to expand their open cut mine into Bulga. In effect this legislation will over-ride any decision by the Land and Environment Court. Yesterday's news is today's fact. Stuff the people who voted O'Farrell in on his false promises to leash the mining corporations.

This will affect all of NSW.
Rules for assessing major mining projects are set to be radically rewritten by the state government in response to a ''David and Goliath'' win by residents of the NSW town of Bulga over resources company Rio Tinto.

A draft planning policy released by Resources Minister Chris Hartcher on Monday proposes to make the economic significance of mining projects the ''principal consideration'' of the assessment process.

It comes after the residents of Bulga, in the Hunter Valley, won a three-year battle against Rio Tinto in April by overturning, in the Land and Environment Court, a decision to allow it to expand its Mount Thorley Warkworth open-cut coalmine.

An appeal by Rio Tinto is due to be heard next month. If it is unsuccessful, the policy change could pave the way for the company to lodge a fresh development application under the new rules.

The chief executive of the NSW Minerals Council, Stephen Galilee, welcomed the announcement as ''an improvement that provides more certainty for all''.

But John Krey, vice-president of the Bulga Milbrodale Progress Association, which took the court action against Rio Tinto, criticised Mr Hartcher's announcement as ''a joke''.

''The mining industry has been lobbying the state government ever since the Land and Environment Court decision,'' Mr Krey said. ''They say they want certainty in the process. But their 'certainty' means they just want to get the approvals they need for every project, as they have been doing for the last 20 years.''

Nice try...
We are discussing federal labor and federal polls right mantra? Let ME be more specific for you since you've dodged the main point or missed it accidentally.
Abbott is pro-mining and doesn't believe they should pay any tax.
soooo.... I guess you can't miss the point this time eh

Care to back that up with some facts? hmmmm.

Perhaps you can stop being so disingenuous in the future and save me creating 2 posts when 1 would suffice.

You have serious comprehension problems as has been pointed out to you countless times before. The Federal government has nothing to do with the insignificant royalties mining corps currently pay to the states. The miners don't pay for the damage after they've pilfered our best agriculture land, cracked our water reserves or polluted the air we breathe. They also add to our current monthy import deficits by spending up big for foreign equipment and not paying their bills, but writing it off instead under our lax tax laws.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the Coalition would scrap the carbon tax and the mining tax if it wins the September election.

Abbott last night delivered his reply to Labor’s budget for 2013/14, restating the coalition’s pledge to roll back the government’s carbon tax and abolish the mining tax.

Oh dear.... the topic is LABOR AHEAD IN THE POLLS... it is about federal issues.

I quoted you...

Abbott is pro-mining and doesn't believe they should pay any tax.

I have asked you twice before to back this up with some facts... both times you have failed and just used personal abuse instead of facts.
I have no comprehension problems.

Now put up or shut up....

Where has Abbott ever said mining companies should pay no tax?
