If we mean liberals, as in the American sense, most will say 'liberals'. It can be confusing.

Most if us don't speak American though and Liberals refer to the Conservative? Party.... The Liberals however have been infiltrated by many Progressives the Liberals have 2 major factions called WETS and DRIES the WETS call themselves moderates but are anything but and are Progressives. The Dries are Conservatives of a sort. Currently its hard to tell who is running the party, because the previous PM was a Capitalist and Social Progressive.

Oh no we know who they are, we have a mainly LW prog media led by the National Broadcaster the ABC, they like to pretend that Conservatives are in charge though.

The previous PM changed the Centre-Right Conservative Liberals into the Turnbull Progressive Liberal Party... stacking his Cabinet with his Prog mates... unfortunately now we have a new PM who is pretty moderate himself and the Cabinet has remained the same... there will be no change till the next election and then we could have the ALP in government.

The Monarch - the Queen at the moment - has no political power in Australia. She has influence though, via the Governor-General. The Queen "elects" no one. The Governor-General is nominated by the Prime Minister who leads the Government of the Day. The Government comes from the political party that holds the largest number of seats in the House of Representatives. The MPs from the House of Representatives are elected by the citizens of Australia. The MPs in turn select who is to lead them and that person forms the Government. The Government is sworn in by the Governor-General.

The prime minister is appointed by the governor-general, who is the representative of the Australian monarch (currently Queen Elizabeth II). The queen could instruct her representative to appoint a new prime minister at any time. (If the governor-general refused, the queen could appoint a new governor-general.)

It's important to remember that Elizabeth doesn't have these powers as queen of England, but as queen of Australia. Legally, Australia is a monarchy, with its own royal family.
