Though given Marias eye troubles and albinism, she was rejected then given to the Roma couple to raise as their own as though she were an unwanted puppy.

The authorities and media have made such a mess of this, have forcibly removed a small child from the only family she knew for political reasons...a family who loved and cared for her deeply.

She should be returned to the Roma couple at once.

If the same scenario occurred here - the child wouldn't be returned either to the Romani couple or her biological parents. The little girl didn't even have her birth registered which meant that she'd unlikely get an education. In this apparently civilised world we can't hand babies around as though they are unwanted animals, although it happens. Greece has quite harsh laws in regard to the welfare of children.

I just hope that this little girl is reunited with her Roma family, and perhaps the Greek authorities could legitimise her existence by allowing the Roma family to formally adopt her then provide them with the assistance they require in order to take good care of her to make amends with respects to how they used this family to racially vilify their Roma 'Gypsy' people for political purposes.
Thats why they raided the Roma community to begin with.... Not because they cared about all the 'white' children they claim the Romas have abducted/trafficked over the years. Of which is a myth.

Yes - and little Maria isn't pretty, although with the right care and attention she could fit into mainstream life no matter where she comes from. She won't get that though. Once this publicity dies down - she will be forgotten and discarded.

The Roma are stateless and have no rights. Apparently this ensures that any country they reside in isn't obligated to help them. Things like birth certificates and appropriate documentation are beyond their financial and educational means.

The biological mother of Maria has had 6 of her children removed because of the sheer poverty and squalor she lives in. Most of her children will be placed in institutions and that's where Maria will end up also. These people are considered to be of no worth and there is no future for their children. Shocking poverty for the Bulgarians and statelessness for the Roma's ensures they stay at the bottom of the pile.

This has been a sad story. Regardless of whether the parents live in absolute poverty or whether they're uneducated and stateless - a child is probably still better off growing up in a family where they're loved. They will not get love in an institution, but might be fed and clothed a little better. Which is more important?

Whatever. Responsible parents do not leave little children alone in their beds while they leave the property to have dinner with friends. These parents have lied and continue to lie. Nobody has taken Maddie because she is God's Gift. She is not out there, wondering who she is. The parents should be incarcerated for their stupidity.
