Farmers are deserting in droves whilst foreigners are scooping up the forsaken farms to feed their own nations.

OK mantra, one last time. If we are starving, the fact that foreigners own the farms does not mean they can force us to let them export the food.mantra wrote:It's only the second time I've brought it up - the first time in another thread. Yes - so those who are thick can remember the message.......and just keep repeating it.
Is that why you call yourself mantra?
Did you fully read the article Frogen posted? You say that our government will stop all food exports in an emergency, but can they force ME & Asian corporations to do their bidding without creating bloodshed? The Food and Grocery Council seems to think that we're headed down a slippery slope. There has been a dramatic drop in exports - so it doesn't leave much wriggle room to feed our own nation, especially if imports are cut off in a crisis.freediver wrote:OK mantra, one last time. The Australian Food and Grocery Council's annual State of the Industry survey, due for release at the end of this month, will report that Australia is importing food at soaring levels, while our food and grocery export market stagnates.
Last year, the survey found Australia's food and grocery surplus had been whittled down from $4.5 billion in 2004-05 to just $150 million.
This year, the peak body will report that the industry -- which includes some personal care and medical products and excludes bulk grain and livestock -- will record a trade deficit for the first time since data was collected in 2003-04.
The council's chief executive, Kate Carnell, said Australia's position as a significant regional exporter of food was under threat from policies including a carbon tax, flagged cuts to water allocation and a strong dollar.
"Australia has traditionally had a significant trade surplus with regard to food, we've traditionally been a significant exporter, but what is happening is our exports are flat and our imports are increasing significantly. This is a real concern for Australia's food security," Ms Carnell said.

How should/ could we convince the US and EU to drop their farming subsidies. What incentives could we offer.freediver wrote:We actually should be reducing farm output by getting the US and EU to drop farming subsidies.
Did you? Did you see my response to it? Did you see the absurdity of their claims?Did you fully read the article Frogen posted?
Mantra, the companies don't have to do their bidding. The government can just tell them to F off, in whatever the diplomatic term for that is.You say that our government will stop all food exports in an emergency, but can they force ME & Asian corporations to do their bidding without creating bloodshed?
That council has it's own agenda and is not afraid to use pure BS. They are the people who made the claim we are becoming a net food importer, by 'ignoring' most of our food exports. The Food and Grocery Council seems to think that we're headed down a slippery slope.
So this means you haven't actually read the article? There has been a dramatic drop in exports
Definitely not. Read it. Think about it. If that doesn't work, read the discussion we have already had about it.so it doesn't leave much wriggle room to feed our own nation

So, you didn't read it either? And to think I even saw this coming:Mantra is right by the way...

It is glorious, like freeballing it or being in Congress.
