My thoughts.......I expect MP's would have participated in the survey in their capacity as private citizens?????
That's when they have their individual voice.
Put on their elected representative hat, they vote in accordance with the decision of the electorate. Full stop.

That is my view too. Which ever way the electorate voted the representative is in place to represent the voice of their electorate.Alinta wrote:Put on their elected representative hat, they vote in accordance with the decision of the electorate. Full stop.
Some Sydney suburbs are being extensively over-developed without appropriate infrastructure being set in place and against the wishes of the people who live there. Their concerns are falling on deaf ears.
Why are we even bothering to vote? I find it very troubling.

Re: Queers and Beers.
Canberra had 74% voting Yes, but that is understandable ... this is ALP Country.
I still voted NO.
The rest of the comments I agree with .... the MPs should be listening to their constituents and vote accordingly. I think the only Electorate that had a high NO vote was Bennelong and that is Liberal, isn't it? John Alexander was still MP, now resigned due to the dual citizenship thing.

Re: Queers and Beers.
if you vote LABOR you vote for the PARTY politics not your own if you think a lab member is working for you
forget it..
.nef as you are aware this town is run by lefties has been since I arrived in the 80s.it has now been in Labor hands for how long I have forgotten...
in the mean time all I see is development development and more development and an awful lot against the will of the people..
we have one going on at the moment in my neck of the woods... it was development that drove me out of my last home.. we fought it and went down all the roads.. but at the end of the day it was CUT AND DRIED we had not a prayer ion hell of changing anything....
now its the same here.. lucky not on my doorstep..but still wrong..
it has been zoned Community Land for many many years...until now that is.. now theres a sign up and I am sure the developers are circling...so all the good people directly affected are now at battle stations..[been there done that]... I have signed everything but what else can anyone do if I want to support them and complain directly I will have to pay to do so....so it ends up with just the few who are right next door to it so to speak...
and of course they make the rules dont they and the developers have all the answers for those who object.....and Town Planning...
well I dont know what you think of the TOWN PLANNING in this town nef..
but I certainly have an opinion on them and it isnt nice.

Re: Queers and Beers.
I am a Liberal voter, Cods, always have been and I wouldn't vote Labor if you paid me.
The Planners are a pain in the arse. Always have been. Ditto the Developers. I came to Canberra in January 1981, before Self Government and we Canberrans did vote NO to self government, Hawke said "too bad, you are getting it anyhow". Canberra has gone down hill ever since. When I came here I had no intention of living here "forever". I did look at moving back to Melbourne in about 1996, while I could still afford to (Sydney was out of the question) but decided against it in the end. So ...... here I am till the day I die.

same here... we came from the coast but to see how they are changing this town for the WORST is so bad how many trees have gone since labor and the greens started scratching each others backs....a bloody disgrace....when they start clearing sites here they put screens up netting mostly in green so you cant see what going on...and when the trees are felled they are disappeared in a flash....so when the drapes are moved back waller bare ground who would have thought....all ready for another bunch of ugly buildings.....
and all run by a GAY leader....

Don't forget this little Green twerp .... what is his nickname? If it wasn't for him backing Labor, we would have had a Liberal Government. We really need a change, Labor has been there way too long.

Re: Queers and Beers.
I have a friend I visit in Sydney and every time I go there I see yet another block of cookie cutter cube units being erected. I swear a new one appears weekly.
The street stretches for about 2.5 kms and all the nice old houses on one side of the street are gone and now there are dozens and dozens and dozens of ugly unit blocks with ugly coloured facades in their place.
I should take pictures next time I drive there it really is quite unbelievable.
Oh and guess who they are ALL being sold to?
