and yet every single poll for almost the last decade has shown that the majority of people think gays should be allowed to marry.

No, only the selective surveys come out with a pro gay marriage result.
All the real polls say no, nine, nyit, non, not phuking on.

If the polls DID as you claim consistently give a result of support, the queers and ALP would support the plebiscite.
It's that simple.
rubbish. Not supporting the pleb has nothing to do with it. The pleb is a $50m waste of money. Several MP's have already said they'll vote NO regardless of the pleb result. If that's going to be the case, why waste money on the pleb? Make it legally binding and labor has said they will support it, otherwise, better to put the money elsewhere. What is the no camp so afraid of that they won't make the result binding?

Letting the voice of the people actually be heard is never a waste of money.

ALP seem to be leading you around by the nose.
For starters they now don't want a plebiscite they want a pollie vote. Why because they think they have the numbers... despite your several MPs.
Nope, they are afraid the people will not support SSM, despite all the crap they go on about being in the majority.
Plebiscites have the advantage of being inherently democratic. According to Labor's Nicola Roxon, "you cannot go wrong by simply asking the Australian people what they think – and put the decision in their hands."
Plebs are not binding.... how many times must you be told.
Referenda are for the Constitution they are binding. They are binding plebiscites.
Voting in referenda is compulsory. Referenda are binding on the government. A plebiscite is sometimes called an 'advisory referendum' because the government does not have to act upon its decision. Plebiscites do not deal with Constitutional questions but issues on which the government seeks approval to act, or not act.Aug 21, 2015
You need to stop listening to the ALP crap.

you're not all there in the head are you?

I opposed a pleb because it's not binding, and you come and tell me that a pleb isn't legally binding. And now you're trying to tell me I don't understand?

A Plebiscite may not be binding but it gives ALL eligible Australians an opportunity to "vote" for something ... rather than our "esteemed" Pollies make the decision for us. IF the Plebiscite is a YES then the Government can proceed and make it LAW.

Question John Smith. Do YOU trust the Politicians (of either flavour) to do what YOU want them to do? I certainly do NOT!

Funny how they didn't need a plebiscite when deciding to stymie the ACT's effort, by changing the definition of marriage. They're paid good money to decide these things on our behalf, not pass the buck when when their decisions may cost them a few votes.

except that it doesn't give you an opportunity to vote for anything. It's just a glorified opinion poll. After a pleb. the politicians still get to make the decision for you.

ANd to answer your question, I don't trust politicians to honour the result of a pleb. In fact, many have already admitted they're not going to honour the pleb unless the no vote wins.
