France to close schools and embassies fearing Mohammed cartoon reaction

France is to close embassies and schools in around 20 countries on Friday due to fears of violence after a weekly satirical magazine published cartoons of a naked Prophet Mohammed.

So it goes on. Now a couple of cartoons will result in further deaths. This is getting out of hand.

I think every paper and television programme should display images of Mohammed until these guys get the hint that repression of free speach is not gong to be accepted. Where will it end. The world is too afriad to say anthing to offend Islam. They are winning with fear. We cannot let them win. It would be the beginning of the end.

It's a form of repression and we are falling for it.

The next war could be about our freedom of expression, a simple right we have taken for granted. It should be defended.

Government everywhere are becoming fearful and look to comply with th wishes of Islam never to say BOO about the prophet in images or words.

Islams fear campagn is working. Fear=Terrorism.

I think the whole problem is Multiculturalism, and political correctness, not Religion.

The NSW police at least are determined to come down forcefully on the dissenters if there is another riot - but I'm not sure whether the Federal government would do the same.

France needs to bring out the water canons and not retreat one step. Non-Muslims don't seem to have the same convictions, drive and hate - so it's easy to back off.

We are letting them win. Dutch politician Geert Wilders has, so far, been refused a visa. He is an outspoken opponent of Islam and has to travel with bodyguards. He is supposed to address a conference in Melbourne in October but he has been waiting since August for visa approval because our government is afraid of the backlash from the Muslims. His bodyguards and staff were granted visas within 3 days

What sort of free speech do we advocate? Taji Mustafa didn't have a problem getting a visa to spread his hate here in Sydney last weekend

If we all collectively took a stand.... they would need to modify their behaviour.

Islam has gone into some sort of "Dark Age". It once was a very open minded and learned society, ahead of the west.

Something has gone very wrong.

Even Islam had a couple of images of the prophet a few hundred years ago. Hell the guy was a man, not a god (unlike Chistianity) so what so special about making an image of him. It's all about control, political control of what the masses can say and think. The worst sort of oppression. It must be stopped.

The NSW Coppers are annoyed that some of their own got hurt ..... otherwise they care less. What can they do anyway? Shoot at them? Tell them to go home and be good boys? Lock them up? For what? Disturbing the Peace?

IS it a Federal problem? I doubt it. Each STATE and Territory is responsible for its own Policing. However, unlike the US of A, our crims can't just slip over the border into Queensland or where ever and get away with it for a while.

The ACT Federal Police are mostly just sitting on their bums. Or keeping an eye on Julia's shoes,etc. We do have ordinary Coppers here who lurk behind trees to catch speedsters .... if there is a "domestic" apparently they turn up in droves .......... such excitement.
