That would also necessitate increasing the size of the pits and ducts as .32mm and .4mm old copper is replaced with brand new .64mm copper. It is #Fraudband would cost $100Bn.

In 2005 Telstra said the copper was at 5 minutes to midnight. We have all seen the horror stories of how poor the copper really is—not the exchange to the pillar, the bit Turncoat would replace, but from the pillar to the premises. When it rains the pits fill with water—it was IQ told me that!—and the copper rots a bit more.

Not only is the copper rotten there are two other problems:

1. Telstra copper is 99% .32mm and .4mm, a real VDSL needs at least .6mm

2. VDSL needs more than one pair—and a lot of households don’t even have ONE pair! (pair gain.)

FTTH is needed now before the copper rots away completely.
