NBN is based on the assumption that the average joe is going to use technology in the way they have been. PC's, laptop needing ever great bandwidth capacity.

The future is mobility. Computers for consumption of content on the move.

Watch and see, things are changing and this bet may be an over investment in an area that does not match the trend.

Ipad type devices are taking off with 3 or 4G network capability. Plus WiFi.
Iphone type devices everywhere.
PCs only for business and people who need to create content rather than just consume it. The smaller percentage.

I can do all my browsing, Facebook, banking, locate services from my phone and Ipad today.

Telco's are offering flat fees for unlimited usage in Europe and US at reasonable prices. They will be offering them for a bundle of devices soon. One tarriff for you Ipad, Iphone ...etc.

Why do i need a big pipe into my home... I can stream music and video on my Ipad and phone.

Maybe the telcos will leverage the backbone to provide the services but they have to pay for that, if it's not cost effect they will build there own... unless legilation forces them to use NBN.... I suspect that what will happen.... a monopoly... back to the bad old days.... eh.
