Yep the coalition should have hung onto telstra that would have saved heaps, but seeing as tho it was sold I tend to think its a good idea having gov control on the fibre network, lets face it telstra even tho they are a private company have been dictating to every other telco for years about "their lines" so at least now it might make them a bit more keen to attract customers with fair deals instead of the monopoly they've enjoyed.
Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
No, it could have been sold, but sold competently. Tip and the Rodent fucked up everything they touched!
Man, I can't wait! Gigabit internet & VOIP! Films on line! Footy fans could watch large, high-definition real time coverage of the game! Everyman will take this up with gusto! Labor does this well they will dine on it, be in power, for decades!

Hahahaha
Why have 1Gbs when you can settle for 12mbs? For decent speed!
Half the wireless internet sales, probably more than half, is because the copper wire infrastructure is crumbling, pair gain etc.

Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
One of the pay tv networks has recently adopted a policy of satellite only and started reducing cable transmission because it's been too hard to run copper. I predict they will be all over this new fibre optic rollout like white on rice.

Oh fuck yes! Movies on demand--and don't forget the web2 bit, can really send info out as well as take in. Some of the stuff ABC is doing with its iview or whatever REALLY becomes possible with FTTH!
A lot of the wireless stuff will wither with a fast fast fast service! The fibre will be serving us in 10, 20, 50 years! Better compression etc will send speed way past 1Bbps.
And, of course, the main benefit is that with all that fibre to the home. . .we will all be wonderfully regular! {Groan!}

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 83,00.htmlTelstra's response has already been clear: to push up speeds on its NextG network and pump up its ageing HFC pay-TV network for faster broadband speeds.
But that network cannot compete for speed or efficiency with fibre all the way into the building. As well, wireless networks, while convenient, are constricted by the amount of spectrum that network owners have and how fast simultaneous data files and video can be pushed over the air on spectrum that is shared with every other user. And it's increasingly all about video. The world's biggest mobile company, Vodafone, and Telstra itself have admitted that wireless broadband is not a replacement for fixed-line digital mega-highways, but rather a supplement.
We will have gigabit internet--64 times faster than wireless. Wireless has lousy spectrum (EM spectrum, competes with radio, TV etc etc

Back your assertion you pathetic piece of shit. "BOLLOCKS" means fuck all.TomB wrote:Jubial Priest wrote:It will be a redundant piece of crap by the time that it is operational.

BOLLOCKS!
All technology is moving towards wireless. Deny all you want while swinging off of the sack of Rudd, but the smart money is in wireless. No one wants to dig up roads to put in a backbone that will be obsolete in a year or two. Get a fucking clue.

Oh man, Mal the Roosterman is in trouble!
Two senior state Fiberals (Tas & WA) have told the Roosterman to pull his head in re the optic network! Amazing, they can see the benefit! Mal says he knows internet as he 'started' Ozemail. Not a single connection between the two except the word 'internet.'
He is wrong wrong wrong!
