Just imagine, not only an improved majority in the lower house, but control of the senate!

Be careful what you wish for, leftards.

It's highly amusing that they are celebrating their own downfall, although no one ever thought lefties could think any further ahead than their next bowel movement.
I'm prepared to go on the record now and say I believe Turnbull will do a better job than Shorten could.
In fact I wonder just how safe Shorten is now as he was just coasting along expecting Abbott would be the leader and he would win by default. Turnbull is much more articulate than Shorten, He could be in big trouble now. Although to be honest Labor don't really have anyone else. Maybe Plebersek? At least she can string two sentences together.

Heh, I remember a clip of him bitching about the downgrade in his pay when the Libs (under Howard) got booted. That would have hurt (even though he still gets a generous pension, just as an MP).

Changing PM's before their full term is up is wrong and doesn't give them enough time to grow into the job. I didn't think much of Abbott and knew he was wrong from the beginning even when he was the opposition leader, but I ended up not minding him that much. As with Rudd and Gillard - it was trial by media and the relevant parties didn't have the guts to stand by their leader.

Turnbull hopefully will do a reasonable job as long as he's allowed to without too much interference. The way we change leaders is very destabilising.

and Aussie conservatives aren't so different from their American counterparts: they both change the way the message is presented, rather than change the message itself.

A.G wrote: Agree and hopefully now that it has happened twice in as many terms, does this mean it is a new trend and will become acceptable now . Will anyone who wins an election now have the confidence that they will be allowed to do their job and do the job they were elected to do and not be kicked out prematurely- leaders aren't elected by the pp anymore and the whole face of the Political process will change- I thought a sitting PM needed longer than a 3 year term to implement and consolidate new policies successfully, so I find this trend very counter productive.
PM's definitely need more than a term to prove themselves. Howard only won his second term on preferences - Beazley had more primary votes, but Howard had a good run and a chance to implement his policies, although not always popular.

Australia is an important enough country to make the news around the world.

Interesting thought that this has now happened twice recently and is this a new trend.

This is why I am not for a republic. At least the Westminster system allows us to get rid of a leader mid term without going to the public again. We elect representatives, they elect the leader.

Turncoat will now cement his tenure by introducing a republic.

I'd rather give him a pair of concrete shoes myself.

Not happy with the new Liberal leader, and not happy with the way this socialist republican Labor turncoat is now our PM.
