Hydro could power Abbott's campaign

UP to 100 dams could be built across the country to prevent floods, fuel power stations and irrigate a food boom "to feed 120 million".
THE Coalition has conjured up a great policy idea and Tony Abbott should latch onto it. He'll be damned if he doesn't.
Of course, there are a few practical issues with the opposition’s draft plan to build up to 100 new dams across the country.
The cost could be astronomical – approaching the levels of Labor’s National Broadband Network. But is more important than the NBN. Well, about half the cost of that actually, but it’s still a hefty price tag.
There are also environmental concerns to consider. No construction project should proceed if it will bring undue harm to the environment. Green groups will undoubtedly protest loudly against any dam proposals.
But the potential benefits of this plan are easily worth the trouble. A committed development in the nation’s arid north could transform the region into an agricultural hub, boosting Australia’s food production immensely in an increasingly hungry world.
Building more dams would also broaden our access to hydroelectric power, which is by far the most effective and economically feasible form of renewable energy.
Instead of throwing bad money at wind turbines and solar panels when neither of these sources is yet capable of generating baseload power, environmentalists should embrace hydroelectric power as a smart way to reduce carbon emissions.
Tony Abbott could use something positive to spruik as he makes the political transition from attack dog to alternative Prime Minister. Hopefully this water management plan is the first of a few good ideas.
This "leaked" POLICY has received excellent responses from the average Aussie. Even KRudd has said "me too". The stupid Green tart has called it "madness" .... and Monk is ignoring it after asking for Tony Abbott' Policies ad infinitum ... so it must be a GREAT IDEA.Rorschach wrote:Hydro could power Abbott's campaign
Seeing they've been told a zillion times they have none, perhaps you can assist, Naffy? How is Abbott going to pay for these dams?Ha ha ha ha Use your brains lefties!
