Now Latham, he was an honourable man and would have made a great PM. He's as crazy as bat shit and probably would've ended up in gaol for plucking the still beating heart out of the opposition leaders chest but hey at least he wasn't a sneaky, sly little worm.

Latham might have been one of the best PMs we never had, but I suspect his honourableness would have destroyed him in the PM's job.

I think you're wrong there cely, if tip was the Libs best bet why disn't they win the last election? he was put up as part of the "TEAM" remember? the rodent was going to stand down after 12 months for tip, well the punters never bought it then and they wont buy it in two years.
Howard and tip are both politically dead, bring on the new prey.

Latham probably had his run ten years too early.

He did shit on the ALP in his diaries but all should be gratefull to him for forcing the Rodent to wind back the outrageously generous Parliamentary super scheme.

The media killed Latham, they hated him and he paid the price.
I actually liked him, I use to play rugby against him when we were younger, he was a better politician than he was a rugby player.

I liked Latham too. He was a straight shooter, even if he was a bit volatile. Pity about that darned handshake...he might have stood a chance, but I reckon Howard bunged it on for the media. He wasn't that weak that he had to bounce about like a leaf in the wind leaving the impression that Latham was brutalising him. Howard even said in the "Howard Years" that he was prepared for that handshake - he had experienced it before. No doubt it was a ploy for sympathy and it worked.

"he was a better politician than he was a rugby player."

How bad can you suck at rugby?

What did he do? Bash the ref and run naked towards his own coach screaming "Now I'm going to do YOU in the ass, mother!"?

Let's be real, Latham was about as pathetic as a person in public life can be. He was as thick as drying paint in a dish, and emotionally unhinged.

You liked him?

LIKED??

Fuck me. Oh well, one comes to this forum to be shocked and amazed on every page.

Well that's us lefties for you. No-one is saying that he would have made a great PM, although he appeared to be a better alternative to Howard at the time. He did get his act together for a while - pity he couldn't maintain it. He shocked a few people after he lost the election and threw a massive tantrum. His book was quite nasty and petty.

I said exactly that. I didn't say I liked him though. I think he probably would've started executing his generals and sleeping with his horse but as least we would've seen him for what he is and been well entertained in the process.
