The tragedy is that for our democracy to work we need a credible opposition
that will hold the Govt. to account.
Labor has a lot of work to do and doesn't have the talent.
It's not a good position for any of us.

what I found interesting in all this POLL nonsense .

shorten was never once preferred PM....yet everyone chose to ignore that feature...

I remember bringing it up with 47.11 but he wasnt interested in that small issue..

greg argues we dont vote for the PM and or Leader.....

I think this election proves him very wrong.....

OK, we do not vote for the leader of a party, unless you are resident in that leader's own electorate, so Greg is right. However, the effect of the leader on the vote downunder is considerable. Since the days of Federation, our elections have resembled more and more a presidential style election, with the leader being important.

Shorten was unpopular as leader. How much did that play on the public's consciousness? At this point there is no way of proving one way or t'other, Cods. You may believe so but until we see some valid research done on it, we don't know. Personally, I suspect it played a big part but wasn't the complete story. Nothing ever is in Australian policies.

Labor is considering rejecting Scott Morrison’s mandate to deliver his full $158 billion in personal income tax cuts while flagging a dramatic shift on climate change policy.

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi says he will support the entire tax cut package and has urged the government to cut even deeper if possible.

The Australian reports, incoming Labor leader Anthony Albanese yesterday warned that Labor could try to block the government’s full $158bn in income tax cuts in a move that could force the government to split the bill or rely on crossbench support to get it through the Senate.
Typical

It does make sense Black Orchid. If the ALP are happy to support some tax cuts but not others, why wouldn't the Government split the Bill. Isn't it better that they get some passed even if they can't get it all through?

These so called 'Omnibus Bills' are pretty dishonest. Typical? Yes it is a typical political ploy.

Perhaps one of the most difficult things about politics is not knowing exactly why millions of people vote the way they do.

After all, any one of us could make a decision based on a myriad of different factors in our lives.

And, as it looks increasingly likely by the day that Anthony Albanese — a democratic socialist from Sydney’s inner west — will step into the Labor’s top job without so much as breaking sweat, there are some signs emerging that he might not shift too far from the rhetoric and policies that saw the party crushed just days ago.

One of these is a photo that Mr Albanese uploaded to his Instagram page in March last year.

It shows the aspiring Labor leader sat with one of the UK’s most divisive politicians — far-left British Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn.

It’s a friendship that centrist Australian voters could find problematic, as Albo tries to rebrand Labor and abandon its “top end of town” rhetoric that failed to win over so many ordinary voters.

Albanese is poison. Bad decision to make him head honcho unopposed.

Why do you say he is poison? I suspect he will be regarded well as a Labor Leader. For a reason I cannot understand, it seems he connects with people. We have Scomo and now Albo. We never had a Shorto.

What would have changed if he was opposed and still won? I can't think of anything at all. What do you think?

What do I think? I think you’re a creepy beady eyed curry munching paedophile lover who should just fuck off.

Anything else?
