Major parties are seeking to appeal to a broad church of voters. What you perceive of them as "continually failing to put Australia and Australians first," is them seeking sufficient votes to win government. I much prefer a party which seeks to maintain our position in the world and look after all it's voters than a fascist party like the Tories which appear to be only looking after the Big End of town, the silver-tails, the Bosses. The ALP appears to be doing that at the moment. The Greens appears to be doing that. It is why the ALP and the Tories are always attacking them, they are perceived as a real threat.
Australia is in desperate need of a NEW third major party. It has been for years.
Maybe so. However, there are none on the horizon. The PHONies are full of racist/Islamophobic bullshit. They seek to isolate us from the rest of the world and destroy our good standing in International circles. The PHONies have Hanson, an out and out bitch as their leader and idiots like Roberts as her deputy. Cory Bernardi and his Conservatives are just as big a bunch of lunatics. There is basically no one else of any value out there.
Try toning down your obsessive bias eh...
The Greens are lunatic progs... the ALP are now the progressive party and the Libs are led by a social progressive and have been taken over by wets... we have no Conservative Party to vote for anymore with the exception of maybe the Nationals who tow the liberal line in Coalition.
Nope.
We need a 3rd major Party.

So where is your solution?

I would suggest the only person displaying a bias here is yourself. "Progs", "lunatic", etc. Those are symptomatic of someone who dislikes being told the truth about reality. The Greens are concerned, quite validly IMHO with the state of our continent and our planet and seek to correct what is occurring to it because of (effectively) unbridled development without concern for the environmental effects. It is a valid response and they are a valid party, just as much as the Libs, the Nationals and the ALP are IMO. They all represent valid viewpoints in our society. They are all the solution that you appear to ask me for continually. You may not like it but that is how Democracy as defined downunder works.

What is needed is more oversight, more willingness to change, if necessary, Government at election time, less willing to believe in "core" and "non-core" promises from either of the major parties when we vote. Otherwise we just end up with more of the same all the time. You are the solution. I am the solution. All Australian voters are the solution. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater doesn't actually produce a solution, it just produces an empty bathtub.
We need a 3rd major Party.
And who presently represents this fifth "major party" you desire? The PHONies? Bernardi? The Workers Party? The neo-Nazi groups? Mmmm? You have thus far failed to produce your own preferred candidates.

Progs is simply short for Progressives ...
If you don't think many stances taken by The current greens are not lunatic then you are in the vast minority.

We have only 2 major parties.
TWO

They are all the solution that you appear to ask me for continually.
I only asked you once.... I also asked you where your solution was.
Those are symptomatic of someone who dislikes being told the truth about reality.
Flame someone who cares... Troll.

But if you insist I will ask you again. But it seems YOU have no real solutions.

The system we use at present means we must all vote for someone we do not wish to vote for or our vote will be counted as invalid.

So what IS YOUR SOLUTION? That is me asking you again.

Why? Because I actually read and listen to what the Greens are saying? Because I actually understand the issues they are talking about. I don't necessarily agree with them on all matters but on many, I think they are dead right. I know quite a few Greens as well. Their hearts are in the right place - they care about Australia and Australians. Just as do many Liberals, National and ALP members. I do not write any group off simply because there are a few lunatics amongst their members.

Nope. We have four - ALP, Liberals, Nationals and Greens. All are represented in federal Parliament. All have a considerable following amongst the population of voters. No matter how much you deny that, it won't be any truer.
They are all the solution that you appear to ask me for continually.
I only asked you once.... I also asked you where your solution was.

Oh, dear, ad hominem insult. The last resort of someone who cannot muster an argument. We have four major parties in Australia. Four, not two.
But if you insist I will ask you again. But it seems YOU have no real solutions.

The system we use at present means we must all vote for someone we do not wish to vote for or our vote will be counted as invalid.
Wrong. We have a preferential voting system - almost the fairest voting system in the world (Optional Preferential is slightly fairer). The end result is that the candidate who receives the greatest number of votes from the voters, wins that seat in an election. It allows multiple parties to have an equal chance of winning - if they can muster the votes. A first-past-the-post system becomes useless when there are more than two candidates.
So what IS YOUR SOLUTION? That is me asking you again.
For the third time. I have provided you with a solution. You don't like it so refuse to acknowledge it because it makes the people who are responsible, responsible - the voters. Without that, any system, no matter how it is structured, will fail dismally. If you don't like the answer I have provided, tough. Run along and shout at someone you can hope to intimidate. Voters are the only solution that works. If voters take responsibility and actually control their candidates, everything will be sweet. When voters refuse to accept their responsibility, everything goes to shit.

That last sentence was soooo funny, coming from you considering just what you've posted here so far let alone decades of your biased abuse re one party in particular.
Sooo...
Got nothing again I see... why is it you always resort to ad hom and refuse to address the issues or answer questions.
BTW I listen and read widely and check even the Greens website fairly often.
I'm not a rusted on tribal voter I'm a swinging voter.
The Greens stopped being The Greens decades ago, BTW.
