Yes, indeed, a simpleton.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott are continuing their war of words on superannuation and each other's economic management credentials, despite being on separate continents.

Speaking from a business forum in China, the prime minister called Mr Abbott an "economic simpleton" after his comment last week that the government's super changes had "shades of Cyprus about it".

On Friday, the government announced a series of superannuation reforms including a 15 per cent tax on super earnings over $100,000, a measure it says will affect only 16,000 high-income earners.

Ms Gillard said Mr Abbott's remark was "a crazy statement that no person of reason could make".

Finance Minister Penny Wong joined in the attack on Sunday, saying Mr Abbott "behaves as a one-man wrecking ball".

"This is a man who wants to be the prime minister of the country, making economically reckless statements," Senator Wong told Sky News.

"For all my criticisms of (John) Howard and (Peter) Costello, can you imagine John Howard trying to damage confidence in the economy and in superannuation to make a political point?"

Tony Abbott made what I consider a stupid comment to a small gathering of Liberals the other day... about Cypress and the latest Super kerfuffle. It was hyperbole.
Or as Gillard the great mangler of English would call it... HYPERBOWL.
Well guess what mantra... her comment about Abbott was also HYPERBOLE it was biased political and a lie.

How's that surplus going mantra.... economic simpleton who... she guaranteed it.
That the ALP are trying to beat this up into something, is a sign of their desperation.
It isn't usual for PM's to bring up domestic politics whilst overseas, but then Gillard is also desperate.
"This is a man who wants to be the prime minister of the country, making economically reckless statements," Senator Wong told Sky News.
Yet it was made in a small room with a small group of Liberal supporters.
"For all my criticisms of (John) Howard and (Peter) Costello, can you imagine John Howard trying to damage confidence in the economy and in superannuation to make a political point?"
Yet here you are PM making a big deal about something no on would have bothered about or even known about till you made it an issue... :rofl :rofl :rofl

The fact that she chose a trip to China to start her leftie name calling vitriol in response to a comment made by Abbott over a week ago, proves that the woman has no class. Just another example of her bad form.

And...it made national headlines.

Rubbish...we in Australia probably knew about it, via the Media, before she did.

Oh and kiddiewinks...

here is the context for Abbott's loose statement re Cyprus...

"It's very important that all governments understand that money in superannuation accounts doesn't belong to the government, it belongs to the people," he told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.

The link is there.

Thanks for posting this. I have been after it, having heard the simpleton speak the words:
"It's very important that all governments understand that money in superannuation accounts doesn't belong to the government, it belongs to the people," he told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.
He went on to say something about Governments using people's money to pay for their programmes, which I thought was a quite novel concept.

This makes it clear Abbott's comments were in The Media before Gillard made any comment.
