Both party's 'current' leaders claim they support it, however unlike some, I don't always run with the party line, and am capable of thinking for myself.

This thing wont even be wound up until December 2015.

And the outcome of this 'enquiry' will depend very much on who is in office at the time.

If it's Liberal, they stand a better chance of an open and honest enquiry, however if it's Labor ...then much like Labors other promises, I can see this RC fizzling out well before then.

:roll I really think Labor have sunken to an all time low in promising justice to victims of abuse.

Gillard knows fine well Bill Shorten will be taking the leadership from her, this and also knows he doesn't support this Royal Commission.

This said, how can Labor promise they will see this thing through until 2015, when as soon as Bill Shorten arrives with his own bag of tricks, promises, all of Gillards pre-electoral promises/gimmicks/stunts will no longer apply?

It will be deal off!

:roll

Tell me Boxy, is this fair?

Fair on the victims of abuse who will have to re-live all their abuse and for what?

Absolutely nothing!

Just think about it.

Oh yes, independent thinker you.

Obviously you don't always support the party line. But we can predict your stance on pretty much every issue. Just see what Labor is saying, and you'll automatically pick the opposite, irrespective of anything else (including sense, evidence or facts), and will just keep blurting out your usual conspiracy theory bile.

It's long past time this issue was dealt with... both parties agree, irrespective of how embarrassing it's going to be for a few with too much faith in the men of cloth, who they were always taught where above reproach.

That couldn't have anything to do with the ingrained problem, could it? Putting people on a pedestal, simply because they're wearing pretty dress up costumes?

"Mummy, mummy, Santa is a dirty old perv!"
"Don't be silly, Jimmy, Santa is the embodiment of all that is good and pure and sweet in the world... go tidy your room."
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

I wonder if Tony Abbott (well known Catholic) wasn't Opposition Leader whether this would have seen the light of day at all.

I wonder what Mel would be posting if Turnbull had started a Royal Commission and Shorten was opposition leader?

Don't know, don't care... but this had a smell about it at the start... could've been just left over crap from ALP negativity and ad hom attacks... but then....

Those of you making the issue of child sexual abuse political and/or solely about Catholicism should be ashamed of yourselves

Only those who fear the extent to which the Catholic Institutions might be exposed are bitching. Tough titties.....if abuse has occurred there, let's have it out, just like it will come out if the Calathumpian Institutions and the Brownies....et al....have something we need to know about, and address. (As an aside....I wonder if there is a suggestion of smirk on the smile of Peter Hollingworth?)

But.........I cannot recall any Royal Commission which was not politically motivated. It is simple political common sense. There is no way any Government will establish one if it might suffer collateral damage, and ipso facto....there is compelling logical argument which suggests that if Government does establish one, there is at least potential for harm to the Opposition.

Rubbish. Sexual abuse occurs in all institutions whether they be Catholic, Anglican, United, Government. It occurs in the Aboriginal community, in the Scouts etc and even in taxis. It occurs in all institutions where groups of children are vulnerable. It should ALL be exposed

I think......know..............that is exactly what I said. I'm sure I mentioned the Calathumpians, Brownies and even added an 'et al.'

Eyesight problems?

Why are you being so precious about the Catholic issue? Something you'd rather not see examined?

So, in your mind, my saying that I think it ALL should be exposed is being precious and not wanting to see it examined?

Carry on
