Sydney's traffic is close to the worst in the world, but Labor continued to cancel plans for new freeways and rail links.

Hospitals are below par, community services are in a state of abject neglect and the suburban sprawl that is the western suburbs is devoid of decent infrastructure.

They could start by better using the money there. I am sure it would help the disabled too?

Orchid, I think you will find that the Sydney traffic is not the worst in the world ...... it just feels that way. - if you live there (I did originally). Ditto with hospitals, etcetera.

The disabled are already helped via the DSP. The problem is that many on the DSP should be kicked off it and sent off to work for a living. The DSP is more than the Dole, plus they get a Health care card and discounts on everything.

I am not sure what this NDIS is supposed to do for society. People born with a disability is one thing ... those who are disabled due to an accident are usually covered by TPI insurance The rest of them get a Pension. Those who are wheelchair bound should get some sort of compensation or something but how would this help those families who have already got disabled kids in their 20's? Would they get a back pay or something?

Truly, I think it is just a pie in the sky thing with Jules ..... she doesn't actually CARE, she is hoping to not be dropped at the next Federal Election so is trying everything she and her lot can think of. Shake hands with children and animals and be nice to the disabled. She has no shame whatsoever ...... whatever it takes!

That sounded a bit rude and I didn't mean it to. I don't know how long ago you lived in Sydney, or for how long, but 16 years of Labor ignoring our infrastructure and hospitals has seen them spiral into a decline and they are the things I would prefer to see addressed before money is thrown into the NDIS

I didn't say Sydney has the worst roads/traffic problems in the world but it is certainly up there amongst the top. It is also one of the most expensive cities to drive in too

I stopped driving in Sydney about 10 years ago. It became a nightmare. Infrastructure has been very badly neglected and you have to feel sorry for the commuters who deal with the congestion on those toll freeways in peak hour.

I can't see what the benefits of a NDIS will bring. It looks like the federal government will just be picking up the tab for benefits that the states are currently obligated to pay.

Not one of the drones there knows what the NDIS is, that it would partly seek to organise a vast array of various state schemes and add more commonwealth money. At the start of that thread I did post two links as to what NDIS is all about but not a single one of the drongos over there looked at the links.

You are saying the same thing as me, but without the expletives. More commonwealth money will be borrowed to fund this scheme so the states will have extra cash to waste.

With the state government contributing more than double than the federal government I don't see how you have come to that conclusion

So far I have only read that the contributions NSW and Vic are making are less than half the amount requested - so obviously the commonwealth will make up the difference. I haven't checked out the contributions of the other states, but I would assume they'd be similar.
