But it comes straight from Abbott. Nearly every stupid thing you and the other cheerleaders post about the tax or the science of climate change comes straight from Abbott. It is eery reading his old speeches and realising that you didn't even dream this BS up yourself. Abbott is unashamedly appealing to people's ignorance of the science and economics (or even basic English) and he should be called out on it. A PM who deliberately sets out to mislead people is a dangerous leader.

There are rumblings in Abbott's shadow ministry about the paid parental leave and it will not be embraced by business who will be forced to pay an impost levy of 1.5 %.

How is this any different from a carbon tax?

"The point about our fair-dinkum paid parental leave scheme is that it is fully funded," he said. "It will be fully funded through a modest levy on the 3000 largest businesses in our country. I hope that that levy can be offset by an appropriate cut in the company tax rate.

So who will ultimately pay for this scheme? There will be no income from the carbon or the mining tax and he's promising a cut in company tax.

The Coalition's scheme, which Mr Abbott announced as Liberal leader before the last election, will pay women earning up to $150,000 a year their full wages for six months. The policy is aimed at increasing female workforce participation by allowing new mothers to take a long break from work to look after their newborn without sacrificing their career.

Some Coalition MPs believe the scheme gives too much support to high-income earners and will cost too much. Yesterday Mr Abbott repeated his promise to deliver a paid parental leave scheme in the first term of a Coalition government, but said the policy details couldn't be finalised until the full state of the budget and economic outlook was known.
