After barely a month, Rupert Murdoch’s journalism project is a shambles.

All the Crazy Uncle features of Murdoch’s management style were on display in the last week. They speak of a deeply dysfunctional corporation which has become a hotch potch of diverse assets that fight each other fiercely for the only true measure of success – Rupert Murdoch’s attention.

This is what the truly bizarre newspaper splashes that Murdoch’s most trusted editor, Col Allan, has produced for the Daily Telegraph in Sydney really show.

News Corporation has a deep commercial interest in defeating the government and subverting the National Broadband Network but the anti-Labor campaign is driven by far more visceral impulses. News Corp Australia is locked in a bitter struggle, not with the age-old enemy Fairfax Media, but with itself.

And the election coverage is merely an extension of that – each headline becomes a way of securing Rupert’s approval.

Towards the end of WWII Germany’s leaders were also competing for Hitler’s affection. Crazy shit.

Sound like Fairfax where the journos are in a battle to out leftwing each other in desperate hope they can catch the eye of Mark Scott as a leftwing extremist and get a gig on the taxpayer ABC tit because they know Fairfax is fucked.

The difference being is that Murdochs business pays taxes, ABC sucks them up without proper representation of the population and Fairfax is broke.
