Naffy Naffy Naffy! Don’t you know anything??
Howard was Fraser’s Treasurer after poor sweaty, bald useless Phil Lynch.
Howard was a bad Treasurer: Treasury Secretary John Stone came to see Keating just after he was sworn in as Treasurer in ’83 and said action had to be taken urgently or the deficits Howard had been running would become unmanageable.
Hence the banana republic etc.
This is real life, people make mistakes there is not one side composed wholly of angels and one of demons, both sides are people. Both sides have hacks and time servers, both sides have talented people. Mind you, the present Lib front and back benches are pretty thin on for talent.

You need to look at LIFE from a stable situation .... not whether the next Federal Government will stop your Pension or not.
Oh and those who relate to demons and angels are in need of Bipola medication.

Re: Reasons not to vote LABOR.
But Keating won the AAA back after Treasurer Howard and much acclaim for his reforms, then the recession came. Basically, the prosperity of the last 30 years dates back to the Keating reforms. PM Howard should have done some things like raise award super to 15% which he squibbed. Then Howard took money out of education, health and infrastructure and spent it on pork barreling.Neferti~ wrote:The DROP in the AAA thingo occurred during Hawke and Keating as OM.Jovial Monk wrote:Naffy Naffy Naffy! MAXINE McKEW: On the point of the GST, you've got this fascinating snippet from the mid-'80s, when Paul Keating, in fact, brings John Howard into his office - well, you tell us the story.
GEORGE MEGALOGENIS: I think this is one - I mean, I was actually gobsmacked a few times interviewing both these people. With both Keating and Howard, once you started talking about these issues, it was sort of very difficult to wind them up and Keating revealed to me that, sort of, he had Howard in the tent, as part of the project in the mid-'80s, and Howard comes back with what was almost a mind-boggling revelation: that Keating leaked the white paper on tax reform - which had the big option C in it in 1985 - he leaked it to Howard a good hour before the Labor Caucus saw it. Howard was then deputy leader and shadow treasurer and Keating, sort of, called him into a room and said, "I haven't showed it to a lot of my colleagues yet. "You take this away for an hour and bring it back to me, "you know, just so you're worded up on what we're about to announce."
MAXINE McKEW: So, what was he doing? Trying to enlist John Howard as an economic ally?
GEORGE MEGALOGENIS: Yes. Yes. And this is part of the relationship that's sort of long forgotten now because there were big blow-ups once Howard became opposition leader. But, at the time, Keating and Howard sort of saw a common project in doing the things that Howard couldn't get up under Malcolm Fraser. A lot of the early deregulation projects had Howard's active support. Howard, in fact, was at war, himself, in the Liberal Party with Andrew Peacock about the lengths that the Liberal Party could go to to embrace economic rationalism, for want of a better term. Look, I think, I mean, the proof in the pudding really in this one is that a Labor Treasurer is prepared to leak to his opponent before he trusts the Labor Caucus with some of this information.

Re: Reasons not to vote LABOR.
http://pickeringpost.com/article/shorte ... illard/786" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As the truth closes in on Gillard and the rats start scratching at portholes, Bill Shorten is the first to prepare to desert the front line and leave his “mates” in the trenches.
His pitiful attempt at fending off questions on the (previously asleep) ABC was unconvincing for good reason because Bill Shorten knows more than anyone about Gillard’s complicity in the AWU fraud. It was Shorten who went to great lengths to have it covered up.
Shorten sat there, on the Lateline program, wriggling in his seat, alternating between shades of crimson, “I can’t recall... I wasn’t there”, he blustered. But you WERE there, Bill Shorten.
As campaign manager for Bob Kernohan in 1992, you produced pamphlets documenting his opponent’s (Bruce Wilson's) fraudulent activities. Are you sure you weren’t there Shorten? Are you sure you know nothing about this Gillard/Wilson thing?
If I presented you with one of your pamphlets, would you perhaps remember then?
You had just completed your articles at Maurice Blackburn lawyers and on the AWU’s payroll under Bob Kernohan when the extent of the Gillard/Wilson fraud became known.
It was you, Bill Shorten, who stood there with Bill Ludwig and tried to convince Ian Cambridge to drop his demands for a Royal Commission and asked him to refuse to co-operate with the police investigation.
You were successful with Cambridge (and Gillard has repaid him well) but even your union thugs couldn't convince Kernohan to back off, could they?
“If this gets out, we are all history!” That was how you described it, wasn’t it Shorten? Union members were not a priority for you, were they?
Gillard’s “slush fund” Shorten described as, “...unauthorised, out of bounds and inappropriate.” Really, Shorten? Then why did you do everything possible to bury the scam in the same way as you have recently attempted to bury the HSU’s lost $20 million. It looks like you will fail on both counts, eh?
So, you were being groomed by Big Bill Ludwig as a future Labor leader eh? A labor leader who lies through his teeth, cares nothing for workers, covers up scams and can’t keep his dick in his trousers?
Come to think of it, you might fill the role admirably.
Gotta love Pickering
