The police are frustrated.
There is also an untold story here.
Every shopping center has security guards but they are unarmed.
Where did they go during all of this?

So - they like machetes?
How many how hanging out with hidden machetes inside their jackets
and perhaps walk right past you and you don't notice?

Don't worry Bobby. You're a brave Sir Knight.
I'm sure you'll be carrying a longsword to show them who is Boss.

I have only my bare hands.

I certainly wouldn't want to be fighting someone with a machete using my bare hands.
The cops wouldn't do so either -
they would just shoot them as happened in Sydney at Bondi Junction:

Maybe we need more security at shopping centers?

How about those metal detector arches that would pick
up anyone carrying a knife or gun into the place?
When I was in LA – the nightclubs had those at the door -
it was like airport security to get inside.
However they did have armed guards – with pistols in holsters -
around the arches in case someone did produce a knife or gun -
but we don't have any armed guards at our shopping centers at all.
I can sort of understand why -
apart from being expensive you wouldn't want a shootout
in such a densely packed place and that is plausible
when trying to stop someone who is armed from entering.

A female Armaguard security guard got attacked and bludgeoned with a crowbar. Her reflex, while under the influence of a blow to her head, produced her act of shooting the assailant dead. She was charged.
What's that tell you Bobby?
The Courts protect the Criminals here because they stole a loaf of bread apparently.

It was some years ago and if I remember right she was acquitted but even some fact of her going threw the proceeding as a suspect and having psychological problems including her not able to work in security again after, makes your point about our Courts valid though I believe that problems are not so much Courts but laws Courts have to follow.

Yes, here it is
https://www.smh.com.au/national/bashed- ... do400.html
More than two years after shooting dead a man who had beaten and robbed her, Sydney security guard Karen Brown today walked away from court a free woman.
We discussed it on original "Political Animal" on ABC and, BTW, Aussie was on that forum too, he claimed to be a retired lawyer back then.

Well that's good news. I'm glad she did her job and snuffed out a baddie. Things were not kind to her at first.

In general they're not well trained enough for these situations and most of them are immigrants.

Yes - security guards - and where were they during this latest attack ? -
hiding underneath a shop counter?

I suppose you can't blame them -
who wants to take on an assailant with a machete using you bare hands?
