It will be a monumental waste and white elephant

Re: 87% take up the NBN
I think we confuss two issues.
1. NBN - is it good technology - Yes
2. is the way the government is going about it the mnost cost effective way to do it?
Breaking up telstra and having a level playing field so the backbone is provided by a separate organisation is a good thing. It is what has been done elsewhere.
Is the government's plan the best and most cost effective way to achieve the goals. The jury is still out.
I think the answer is NO however i struggle to see a different way now because private enterprise will not provide a servise equally to all. It does not make financial sense to do so. Do we need big government to fund such major programmes. Probably yes. Should it be done in a transparent way - definitely yes.
Does government have a history in the last 30 years of spending money wisely on big projects - definitely NO.
So in the end, we will get a good solution, pay too much for it but in the long run we should benefit as a society.
Just because it is the right techological result does not mean the way it is funded and managed is the best. All we need is transparency and the best brains to work on it to make sure ou moiney is spent effectively to implement, delivery even a better result.

Always remember what you post, send or do on the internet is not private and you are responsible.

Yeah Baillieu is basically just farting loudly ATM.
Examine/change what Brumby did. Get the fed govt, somehow, to pay for a railway line. Good luck with that, Ted!
No real program, sounds out of his depth already.

Yah, and if it was private industry doing it, it would take an extra 20 years to reach the remote 1/3 of Australians and they would have to mortgage their children to get it.
