TONY Abbott has emerged as the political leader Australian voters trust most to manage superannuation policy.
An exclusive Galaxy poll for The Sunday Telegraph today suggests that Labor's messy superannuation reform debate has damaged the party's standing with voters on retirement savings.
Just one in three - 34 per cent of voters - agreed they were most likely to trust Julia Gillard with their super.
Overall, 45 per cent of voters said they were most likely to trust Tony Abbott with managing government policy on their retirement savings.
The result is a blow to Labor's proud record of introducing the first compulsory employer contributions to superannuation in Australia during the Keating years. Gillard and her government are destroying labor's credibilty.
Support for Labor has also flatlined, with a primary vote of just 33 per cent according to Galaxy, a result that would deliver a devastating electoral defeat if repeated on September 14. Support for the Coalition is steady at 47 per cent, the Greens on 12 per cent.
Assuming a flow of preferences similar to the last election, this would deliver a two-party-preferred outcome of 54 per cent for the Coalition and 46 per cent for Labor.
Accused by the Coalition of attempting to "raid" Australians' superannuation accounts, the Gillard government ultimately backed away from more radical options to endorse a plan to hit retirees with an income stream of $100,000.
In an exclusive interview, Mr Abbott told The Sunday Telegraph he was not surprised that the recent superannuation debate had damaged voters' trust in Labor.
He said Labor had shown in the past few weeks that it thought the public's money was "available to the government for a smash and grab raid if the government needs it." "I just think that's dead wrong."
Queanbeyan mother of two Sam Norrie, 32, said the recent debate over more changes to superannuation was a worry.
"We work hard for what we've got so I worry about that," she said.
I just posted a newspaper article about the drop in our emissions. I am asking IQ for the forecasts he brought up.Rorschach wrote:Oh wait I already asked you for specifics on that so far you've declined to answer.freediver wrote:So what are these forecasts? Are there any predictions of what emissions would have been with and without the tax, or is that concept too subtle for an Abbott supporter?
No proof as usual - just propaganda and personal attacks. It's no surprise you were given a hiding on OP yesterday and banned for the umpteenth time. You couldn't debate your way out of a wet paper bag.IQS.RLOW wrote:Manufacturing closing down will also do that but not to worry, those emissions, jobs, money and economic growth all just transferred to another country that isn't populated by illiterate economic fuckwits like freeloader here.
We'll get there harder and faster under Abbott. I'm not enthusiastic about all the Greens' policies and Milne isn't aiming to be in government, but an Abbott government voted in by such ignoramuses is downright terrifying.Rorschach wrote:Face it... The Greens want to drive us (walk us) back to the stone age.
