Is Multiculturalism a failure?

Getting back to multiculturalism..... it's only failed in areas where there's a glut of any given race (be they white Australian or otherwise) being deposited areas of perceived social disadvantage.

It's not that multiculturalism has failed ....given there are plenty of instances whereby more thought-through urban and town planning has occurred where multiculturalism has worked, ie, Italians, Greeks, Chinese ... so long as they assimilate, serve a productive purpose, pay their taxes and don't interfere with the dynamics of an existing western culture or start impinging on our Australian way of life.

In most instances, (I speak from personal experience from having grown up in a once deemed respectable middle class Sydney suburb gone bad) multiculturalism has been embraced as a positive step towards the betterment of our nation on the whole.


I think it comes down to planning, the trouble is those who make the policies are as Mark Latham said, those who also live in privileged areas ie, eastern and northern suburbs which attract a higher class of a less contemptuous immigrant.

Our once middle-class predominantly white Australian suburbs have turned into migrant ghettos and slums with high crime rates.

Who's to blame, the migrant or the government who installed them into 'insular' disadvantage to begin with?

But I grew up in the 80's and 90's when a Labor government were in power, and they told me that Multiculturalism has been a success, and is something we all should be proud of and celebrate each year.

How did I get this so wrong?

I mean, I honestly thought gang rape was their special way of saying thanks for having us or something, oops, silly me, I must have missed a few socio-cultural cues there along the way.

...and of course, you know your multicultural neighbourhood has been a success when you shout "Group Hug" and a pack of lip-plated migrants or natives with a bone under their nose charge at you with their fly's down and their penises poking out.
..... I mean, what's not to love, right?!


No wonder there are no photos of Julia Gillard cuddling non-white Australian babies, for starters, she'd actually have to visit one of these multicultural areas she like her fellow party members so desperately try to avoid.



I guess, Multiculturalism is rather 'Kewel' until you are forced to live amongst it, or sell your house for a pittance to escape it.




Thus, you are correct, and I stand corrected, there is a big difference between assimilation and multiculturalism.
