Palmer may not even get elected in seat of Fairfax, as a 7 vote difference means an automatic recount.

But there may only be just one more re-count, then if he's won by only a couple of seats, he's in.

He had enough money to bankroll his own US presidential style campaign... bedazzled the politically naive and labile...along with bogans from low socio-economic areas like Blacktown and Dubbo with his Titanic DVD... lol many voted for him simply because he was entertaining, made them laugh, or because they fancy a remake of theTitanic.
The Sunshine Coast is pretty and has it's pockets of 'privilege' , but it has a high unemployment rate also with many coming from low soc-ec/disadvantaged areas living from hand to mouth on welfare cheques.

The Sunshine Coast is predominantly comprised of retirees, naturalist quinoa-munching glass-house Mountain hippies, Noosaville yuppies, the self employed and seasonally albeit under-employed beach combing bogans.

Clive Palmer appealed to the Hippies, the bogans and the change of lifers with his boyish rough and ready old-school Australian protectionist psudo sentimentality.

Katter appeals to a similar crowd only focuses more on hood-winking farmers and those from impoverished country towns.

Hence his iconic Cowboy hat.

NSW Median Household income (weekly) $1,233, up 19% since 2006

I remember a few years ago when they moved the centre of Sydney marker out to Parramatta. The western suburbs which included Blacktown and Penrith had the most number of millionaires in NSW.

And no, not elitist at all, I lived on the Sunshine Coast myself briefly during my teens, and have family up that way...I am just stating a fact in terms of Palmers target audience.
