And as someone already pointed out to him, the pic he posted of Abbott peering down at some notes, was taken from the 2010 debate.

And the recent one he's now clinging to in order to redeem himself is merely a note pad and pen... items which were permitted during the debate according to the rules.

Of course, the real proof is in the pudding, (watch the footage ) and at no point throughout the debate did Abbott start spooling gibber from a pile of notes, unlike Rudd.

Sorry to break it to you Monk and Aussie, but even Mr Coombs concedes he he got it wrong this and has not read the rules himself.

The latest photo only shows a blank note-pad on Abbotts lectern... one that was probably there before he even arrived.

I think you will find there was one on Rudds lectern also, with the addition of his plastic folder full of notes that somehow found its way to his lectern before he arrived. Odd. ...and stranger still, found its way into his daughters hands straight after the debate.

Rudd did not want to be seen taking the notes to and from the lectern, this is clear, and was hoping we wouldn’t notice him reading them during his waffle.

Rudds Jedi mind-trick failed.

Rudd argues that he didn’t know the rules, and said why would he read from them so openly on live television knowing he would get caught if he did.

Because he's an arrogant liar, and thought this excuse would suffice in the event someone questioned him.

He assumed the mod would turn a blind eye, and not make an issue of it, (which he didn’t, until confronted on twitter after the debate) but what Rudd hadn’t counted on was the rules being circulated by our press and the public realising it was against the rules.


Now even if Abbott placed the note-pad on his lectern himself, it's clear that he did not read from it or refer to it at any time throughout the debate. Furthermore, it appears the note-pad is somewhat blank, as Abbott didn’t have time to take notes himself despite him being allowed to do so if he wished.

Do any of you truly believe that junk re- the mod being too busy writing notes to notice Rudd reading from his?

He was supposedly the moderator not a bloody stenographer.

One more thing....

Rudd is the kinda guy who strikes me as being rather anal... he would have read every word on that brief and would have known fine well that taking notes in with him was against the rules.

It clearly states within the brief that both party’s had read and accepted the rules for the 2013 debate.
