But I spose one good bit about the whole arrangement is that we might be able to by Zimbabwes printer if ours breaks. No tarrifs, empty docks, trade surplus, and they are going cashless so wont need theirs.

Those who need it are the poor people who bear the cost of the recession on behalf of the rest of us: workers who lose their jobs, apprentices laid off, youngsters who can't even get into the labour market, and businesses and self-employed people who go broke. There is nothing in this package for them.

Australia pays its unemployed a starvation wage of $224.65 a week. Its real value has not risen for 20 years or so.

If we stimulate the economy then fewer will become unemployed.

Contrarywise, any money given to the unemployed will go toward stimulating the economy, those on the dole having no discretionary income: what they get they will spend.

Keeping immigration going is yet another way of stimulating the economy!

Howard made kicking the unemployed an art form. Work for the Dole (i.e. paint a rock) was only introduced because Howard knew his base loved it, not for any reason of training the unemployed.


Just heard: the $10.4Bn bonus DID work! Just heard on ABC radio that there was a big jump in retail sales! And Allbull is opposing the second stimulus! Bad timing or what? The first stimulus worked but we oppose this one, what a poltroon!

But recommending we heal to the likes of Fairy O'Brian of Auntie is really just too much. I recomend we all ignore Auntie, because it is RED, and got us into this mess in the first with its psychophantic indulgences and boot-licking hyperbole in 2006/2007.

Fairy O'Brain has had his brain removed, and supplanted with an Auto-think mechanism which locks itself on to Dialectic Deficit Disorder sufferers.

I think this stimulus package has it all wrong. Rudd is investing in all the wrong places. Billions on community houses, insulation and classrooms? That's not going to do much. All of it should go to building new energy suppliers, roads, trains and railroads, etc. Stuff we will all use.
