I always thought it was and only since Conservatives were silence by the ALP and the Party renamed the Progressive Party by Gillard against a CATHOLIC Tony Abbott has this preoccupation with religion been used by Progs as a way to attack the Coalition.

There is no longer a bloc Catholic vote, as there was before the 1955 split when more than 80 per cent of Catholics routinely voted Labor.
