Re: errr Global Warming?
How mad is Labor? How crazed with the global warming religion?
Consider.
Labor was destroyed when the Gillard Government imposed a carbon tax.
A carbon tax costs money and jobs but makes no measurable difference to global warming.
Global warming seems to have paused, with no real rise in atmospheric temperature for some 18 years.
The catastrophes predicted by global warming scientists have not emerged. We have not seen worse or more cyclones, we have not seen falls in food harvests, we have not seen an increase world wide in droughts.
Most low-lying islands once thought vulnerable to inundation through global warming are in fact stable or growing in size.
Some a few scientists now warn not of global warming but a mini ice age in 15 years.
So a carbon tax is electoral poison and a costly and useless response to a problem that may well not exist anyway.
Yet:
The Opposition Leader faces a ferocious government assault and his biggest test of political will after the leak of Labor’s plans to resurrect a version of the carbon pricing scheme which contributed to its defeat in 2013.
Labor’s leaked plan looks like a version of an emissions trading scheme linked to other international schemes which at today’s prices would give us a carbon price of around $8-$10…
Leaked internal policy documents reportedly show Labor is planning a carbon pricing scheme with emissions caps that would apply to the electricity sector and a separate scheme which would apply to the rest of the economy.
Labor could also take a higher emissions reduction target to the next election if it considers the post 2020 target that is to be revealed by the Abbott Government next month too low.
Some Labor frontbenchers know this is madness. But global warming makes believers so crazed and intolerant that trying to argue against this within Labor is useless. Besides, see how many journalists won’t hear a word of criticism of the warming faith either.

Re: errr Global Warming?
Labor is against a carbon tax even when it’s for it.
Environment spokesman Mark Butler, July 15:
In the late part of the last Labor government ... we took a decision to terminate the carbon tax and that remains very much Labor’s policy.
Labor’s policy was to terminate the tax? Then explain this vote last July:
The Senate passed the government’s amended carbon tax repeal bills by a margin of 39 votes to 32 ... with only the Labor Party and the Greens opposing their passage into law.
It was the government’s third attempt to pass the repeal legislation through the upper house.
Labor keeps saying it’s against the carbon tax, yet keeps voting for it.
UPDATE
Terry McCrann cuts through the Labor spin:
SO, there will be a carbon tax under a government that Bill Shorten leads…
This time Labor will try to argue that it’s not a “tax” but an ETS — emissions trading scheme. But a tax by any other name is still a tax and still takes money out of your pocket. In this case, utterly pointlessly other than to make you pay — yet — more for your electricity and gas and indeed everything else as it trickles down right through the economy…
And while the ETS is tricked up to supposedly be a “market-based mechanism” as opposed to a clunky “government tax”, that is a complete fraud. Almost certainly, literally.
At least, with a formal ‘carbon tax’ we would be paying the money — around $10 billion a year at the start, rising to $20 billion a year and who knows how much more in future years… — to ourselves. To wit, to the Federal Government…
With a market-based (sic) ETS we would end up paying similar figures each year, but mostly to foreign suppliers of so-called permits.
That is to say we would literally hand over tens of billions of real money for little bits of paper which said in effect: this is permission to keep your power stations open and your factories operating.
Apart from the sheer stupidity of that, every “Nigerian” with access to the internet would be rubbing their hands and saying: come in sucker; do I have a nice bit of paper for you.

Re: errr Global Warming?
Tony Thomas has a quiz question:
In 2008, the University of NSW awarded the university’s highest honor to a man later revealed to be a sexual predator and perjurer. Concurrently, the sexual predator and perjurer became the ‘godfather’ to the university’s Climate Change Research Centre, having been awarded the honor of opening the facility. Who was that man?
A clue:
Will the university withdraw its warmist honor?

The Hot-to-Trot Warmist
Remember when Rajendra Pachauri was the wholesome and much-quoted champion of a clean, green, low-carbon planet? UNSW certainly does because it lavished an honorary doctorate on the then-IPCC chief -- an honour sexual harassment charges have called into question

Remember how Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth said there were lots of these global warming refugees already?
The citizens of these Pacific nations have all had to evacuate to New Zealand.
In fact:
Kiribati man Ioane Teitiota has just lost his appeal to the New Zealand Supreme Court, to be recognised as the world’s first climate refugee.

Re: errr Global Warming?
No, of course the ABC isn’t biased. It is just pure coincidence that its presenters uniformly spruik global warming alarmism and punished any dissenters.
For instance, the ABC’s Paul Barry on Media Watch last night attacked reports of warnings of a new “little ice age” by contrasting that predicted cooling effect with the much greater human-caused warming that warmists predict.
Here is the five-year-old graphic he presented as his proof:

Missing from his misleading argument? Any mention of the fact that this graphic showing massive predicted warming has for the past 18 years been completely contradicted by a lack of actual warming. Here is the graphic presented by leading climate scientist John Christy to a US senate committee this year:

Why did Barry present warmist predictions, not the cool reality?
Reader Turtle of WA summarises:
Paul Barry attempted to weigh into the ‘New Ice Age’ debate tonight on Media Watch. Barry scoffed at the research, then ran a clip of Dr Karl scoffing at it. He then attempted some science. He laughed at the possibility of a 0.2 degree effect on the climate by 2030 - 15 years away. There has been no warming for more than 15 years - this was not mentioned. Nor that all of the dreadful warming that is supposed to have happened in the last 100 years is only 0.7 - 0.8 degrees. He didn’t look at the data, only the climate models. Barry was right to say the models show warming that outdoes the 0.2 of cooling. The only problem is that the satellite data has failed to show any warming this century, and doesn’t look like starting soon.

BAD weather yesterday thwarted a planned helicopter evacuation of 42 scientists, tourists and media trapped aboard a Russian ship in Antarctic sea ice in Commonwealth Bay since Christmas…

An expedition to study the effects of global warming was put on hold Wednesday. The reason? Too much ice.">An expedition to study the effects of global warming was put on hold Wednesday. The reason? Too much ice.
The CCGS Amundsen, a Medium Arctic icebreaker and Arctic research vessel operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, was to travel throughout Hudson Bay, a body of water in northeastern Canada, but was rerouted to help ships who were stuck in the icy water.
A Coast Guard officer said the conditions were the “worst he’s seen in 20 years,” reports CBC news.
“Obviously it has a large impact on us,” says Martin Fortier, executive director of ArcticNet, which coordinates research on the vessel....
ArcticNet is a network of scientists who study “the impacts of climate change and modernization in the coastal Canadian Arctic.”

Re: errr Global Warming?
Come on Australia... get your shit together. IQ, have you been talking to Abbott again.
Australia’s “pathetic” 2030 emissions reduction target shows the country has opted out of the global effort to limit warming, according to the head of the British government’s climate change advisory body.
Lord Deben, previously a minister in the government of Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher, said Australia’s 26% to 28% reduction in emissions by 2030, based on 2005 levels was “simply not enough”.
“Australia is fundamentally out of step and this decision puts Australia among the ‘don’t cares’ of the international community,” said Deben, who is the chairman of the Committee on Climate Change.
“Global warming won’t wait for Mr Abbott and his government. Mr Abbott’s hubris is staggering.”
Deben, formerly known as John Gummer, said Australia’s “pathetic” target showed it had “opted out of the greatest physical challenge of our times” and ignored the leadership of US president Barack Obama, the European Union and Pope Francis.
“Australia’s friends know she could do so much better than this and all of us abroad will work with all those people who are determined to overturn this irrational decision,” he said.
The condemnation of Australia’s climate commitment, to be taken to crunch international talks in Paris later this year, was echoed by the foreign minister of the Marshall Islands – one of the low-lying Pacific nations at acute risk from sea level rises.
“Australia’s weak target is another serious blow to its international reputation,” said Tony de Brum.
“As with prime minister Abbott’s attempt to ignore climate change when hosting the G20 last year, this will send a serious shudder through the Pacific and raise concern amongst its closest allies, including the United States and Europe.”
De Brum, who has repeatedly called on Australia to show regional leadership on climate change, said it was disappointing Abbott had not embraced clean energy more readily.

'Tony Abbott’s hubris is staggering': UK's climate adviser on emissions targetI mean in the end this whole thing is a question of fact, not faith, or it should be a question of fact not faith and we can discover whether the planet is warming or not by measurement. And it seems that notwithstanding the dramatic increases in man made CO2 emissions over the last decade, the world’s warming has stopped. Now admittedly we are still pretty warm by recent historical standards but there doesn’t appear to have been any appreciable warming since the late 1990s.
