IMO no essential service should be privatised.

The definition of essential is subjective.
Health is not essential. Luxury.
Food is produced by man and society so as society evolves and privatisation is a part of that then why not. it is today and it always has been. farmer produce and sell. we have commoditised food and it's production. The communist ideal has failed. The most efficient means of productions and distribution is what is needed.
land, has been privately owned since forever everywhere nearly. Some states own more of it than others. There is no evidence the state makes better use of the land when it is all owned by the state.
Water, the most precious resource is essential to life. Out of the 4 I think is the only one that meets "Essential Service" definition.
Always remember what you post, send or do on the internet is not private and you are responsible.

On this we agree. Why do politicians of all persuasions sell off our most essential assets? Is it because someone is bribing them? We'll never know until after the deed.Rorschach wrote:Power, water, telecommunications.... for starters
Basic health services are a necessity. If we didn't have them people would be dying in their homes because they couldn't afford to go to a hospital or buy the necessary medication at a subsidised cost. In fact if the TPP gets signed, we might be forced to pay full price for some essential medicine.Super Nova wrote:Health is not essential. Luxury.

Hello Neferti,
"We don't tend to talk about our private life here"
Such is to be expected this is a political forum not a dating club.

Agreed, but in the current world of globalism coupled with over regulation creeping toward corporate totalitarianism,wog_girl wrote:What a joke. We should be retaining as many assets as we can. Can't believe we are giving away our control over our food, health, water and land.
there's no point fighting it legally. Better to let it collapse and then take it back by the gun .. or mob rule in the name of nationalism.
Something I used to bitch about quite a bit. Which is why I like Poetic Justice. The theme being we seize the assets of officials who sign off on such deals, and impose the remainder of the debt on their family. Pollies would think twice about selling tax payer financed assets, unless they had a sanctuary in another country.DaS Energy wrote:Australian assets are owned by the Australian people one and all! Where is the electoral mandate giving any Politician the right to sell that which they not own?
Indeed! .. Something I've been watching since 1999, and why Malcom Turnbull must never be allowed to become PM.Super Nova wrote:
I am completely against the privatisation of water.
I'd be prepared to conduct civil war over water privatisation.
When a catchment is sold, the water company owns the surface water (rivers, creeks, dams, ect) the aquifers/ground water, and believe it or not, the rain that falls on your roof or land.
My strategy would begin with chopping up their infrastructure with oxy-acetylene cutters, and if need be terrorizing their employees to make the venture as unprofitable as possible.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
Re: Selling off the farm
We the citizens of Australia own our assets just the same as we own our homes, land and other property. We do not allow our money to be taxed to build assets for us and our children, just so some politician can pretend they own such and they be for sale to foreign buyers!

This is a worry because our water rights are being sold off to foreigners. Many farmers have to pay for the rainwater which falls in their dams already.Outlaw Yogi wrote:I'd be prepared to conduct civil war over water privatisation.

For many years successive governments just haven't given a stuff about the people who vote for them. It's as though there is some grand master plan to dispose of anything Australian eg. the recent sale of Cubbie station to the Chinese.
Look at the recent controversy surrounding the new private airport at Toowoomba? You would know about it Hoppy. No-one was told about it and Newman went to an election without saying a word to the electorate, although he knew it was in the pipeline. Toowoomba council or whoever the local council is up that way - has also signed off on this new private airport which the taxpayers are forced to subsidise although it will be of no benefit to them. It's criminal and in the process - house values surrounding it have crashed and small businesses under the flight path will be destroyed.
Governments don't act in our best interests and they no longer listen to the people.

Newman became Premier in March 2012... this has been talked about since 2009. Bligh must have known about it mantra, your biased innuendo has been shot down yet again.mantra wrote:This is a worry because our water rights are being sold off to foreigners. Were the Greens?Outlaw Yogi wrote:I'd be prepared to conduct civil war over water privatisation.

Hah you are such a biased twit... if Newman knew about it, so did Bligh. What's your point mantra? Toowoomba council or whoever the local council is up that way - has also signed off on this new private airport its a PUBLIC airport... which the taxpayers are forced to subsidise although it will be of no benefit to them. It's criminal and in the process - house values surrounding it have crashed and small businesses under the flight path will be destroyed. Seen the area where it is being built? You do know of course it is a local government issue don't you?
Governments don't act in our best interests and they no longer listen to the people. You'd think local governments would... good thing is you can vote them out.

In July 2011 the Queensland State Government released a statewide infrastructure review which re-stated the view that a new and larger jet runway airport will be necessary to support regional development in the Toowoomba, Darling Downs and Surat Basin regions. Green field sites to the south and south west of Toowoomba have long been under consideration however expense is a concern for Toowoomba Regional Council without actual Federal or State Government assurances.
