Mr Abbott said the changes were too costly in the budget context and that many things could be done to improve education without spending "vast dollops of new money.

"In the absence of anything which is clearly, dramatically, better and affordably, dramatically better, I think we are better fine-tuning the existing system rather than trying to turn the whole thing on its head," he told Sky News on Sunday morning.

Of course this means no more funding for public schools. We know how real funding decreased for public education under the Coalition - well get ready for it again.

Private schools are the way to go. If you want your kid to get a decent education - send him/her to a private school. For the rest of the plebs who can't afford a private education for their children - Abbott says "tough luck" - figuratively speaking of course.

A great many people think Gonski is not the way to go. Dr Kevin Donelly an education expert for one. What the Gonski report focused on was a funding model. Similar to a model I came up with years ago in ON. But it goes much further than that in labor hands... it becomes an enormous bureaucracy where funds are wasted hand over fist.

Personally I don't agree with everything Donnelly says. In fact as a lefty I agree more with Gonski re the funding of Public as opposed to Private schools. Private should mean private. But having been a school teacher albiet for a short period, I do understand that money is not the answer to raising academic standards.
