Never (too uptight about reds under the bed).
Thank you
You seem to be suggesting that the country only implemented social democratic principles as a result of that governments "good management" though. Are you ignoring the fact that well before the libs came to power, there was an established welfare safety net, legislative protection for union membership, public schooling for all, universal basic health coverage, etc.
Are you ignoring the fact that the welfare net was and needed to be tightened after the Keating govt managed to increase it to record levels. Are you ignoring the fact that union membership was never outlawed- it just wasn't compulsory. Are you ignoring the fact that successive
state Labor govts have run down the public system. Are you aware that
state Labor govts have run down the hospital systems.
Ignore that facts all you want

Obfuscation yet again. Steering the debate from a Federal sphere of influence to over-generalisation of individual State responsibilities when the discussion centres on Federal spheres of responsibility. It is well understood that Howard deliberately waged war against all Labor states, using the 'never-ever' GST as a fiscal weapon. He negated all Federal responsibility for education and health, and destroyed a once universal health care system in favour of private enterprise which only this last week has again made private cover even more expensive, while the so-called medicare 'safety net' no longer provides the universality it once did.
The facts are well understood by those who know them.

"Jubial Priest"-
Surely you should be able to think up some more things that are the fault of John Howard? I like how he is responsible for the bush fires now and the bush fires are caused by GW
No sorry, that was IQ and Nef ,but John Howard told them to do it.....

I'm not ignoring that, because it's totally irrelevant to what we were discussing. You tried to say that Rudd's claim to be an economic conservative was incompatible with his claim to be a social democrat, I showed that social democratic principals where indeed conservative Australian values.
Something Howard was slow to learn.

I never implied that the two were mutually exclusive more that they are inversely proportional
