Idiots!
Sometimes it is amazing what happens.
When officialdom and heartlessness overrules commonsense.

Not really surprised police or their bureacratic wing, the DPP, would consider such absurd prosecutions.
Generally, threats to life over-rule law infringements, so any reasonable ajudicator would/should throw the charges out of court, and police/DPPs know this, yet try anyway.
Years ago some SA 16 year old hood broke into a dwelling, bashed and robbed the 80 something year old occupant a number of times (forget number). During the last home invasion the old bloke shot and killed the young hood with a .303.
SA police charged the old bloke with murder (or manslaughter) but the public outcry got the cops to drop it.
So far I have experienced 4 attempted home invasions (2 @ places of mine & 2 @ places I just happened to be at the time) and in each case I have reacted the same way, with violence or mexican stand-off to force retreat.
In each case police became aware one way or another of each incident but chose to do nothing, except last time, where I went with the invasion victim to police beforehand to tell them of the situation, our intentions, and what the victim thought was likely to come of it. Cops did not want to know.
Sure enough, invader tries it on, I repel him with 2 hits of mattock handle, knoking him unconscious and bleeding. I told others to ring for cops and ambulance while giving 1st aid. At some stage he regained consciousness but played possum/dead .. after aprox 20 minutes got up and drove himself to hospital and was able to drop his Rottweiler off at home on the way.
Gin Gin and South Kolan police stations are both only 10 minuyes drive from incident site. Over 2 hour after a 000 reported home invasion and injury, 2 police turned up and left within 15 minutes. Following morning 2 other police turn up, then leave 10 or 15 minutes later, leaving mattock handle behind, and requesting we go to south Kolan to give statements. I gave them an audio recording of the incident, but refused a statement from me, and coached the victim in her statement. Also claimed "no such charge as home invasion in Qld" and only charged invader with trespass because they could see if they openly protected him, I'd go over their heads. (And I would have too, straight to Roma St).
4 days later they charge me with 'assault with deadly weapon' (10 years) .. at court reduced to 'assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed' (2 years) ... caught cops telling invader how to get around trespass charges in court waiting room, and they had the hide to ask me to go outside
I fought it all the way to trial, then foolishly let barrister run my case, and the pro National Party Maroochydore DPP managed to convince 12 hand picked mushrooms that home invasion is acceptable and the Qld criminal code is toilet paper.

Re: When officialdom and heartlessness overrules commonsense.
Some very awful anecdotes in here.
In all the 40 yrs I've lived on this God forsaken planet .. I've never been broken into.
There's something to be said for having a back to base alarm system and keyed locks on all doors/windows as well as living around neighbours who watch out for each other.
And some good luck I suppose.
