Albanese walks- back Medicare promises

Post by mellie » Sun Apr 13, 2025 2:09 pm

Albanese has walked-back Medicare promise and now plans to scalp $360m by scrapping funding for diagnostics and pathology. So after the election, we'll all be paying pathology fee's for routine blood tests and other yet to be specified diagnostic tests that are currently covered by Medicare.

I haven't heard anything about that yet, but they both do it. Got a link?

Was actually itemised discreetly in the 2024 to 2025 budget, but now Pathology services are trying to let Australians know that our Medicare covered Pathology and other laboratory diagnostics are at threat and are saying that the Labor government has said they will save $360mil by making customers pay for lab- tests themselves.

This message isn't coming from either of our leading party's, is coming from Pathology clinics themselves.

Albo's flashing the Medicare card, but I think we need to clarify whether or not he's planning on making Medicare cuts to pathology collection or other laboratory diagnostics.

He's a rat, gives with one hand, distracting immigrants and morons with the magic green card, and plans to make cuts with the other.

Medicare card in one hand, pair of scissors ✂️ in the other.

I don't think Albanese cares either way, his shift has come to a close anyway, we should also ask whether or not he will remain leader of the ALP should he win another term.

I have monthly blood tests, and these tests are much more expensive than routine blood tests.
I am on chemo ( Methotrexate) and Biologics ( Humira) and a cocktail of other drugs which need to be monitored very closely as they can cause irreversible organ damage and or failure.

If I can't afford pathology, then I can't afford to risk liver toxicity, therefore will not be able to resume RA treatment.

And yes BO, they both plan to make cuts, however both don't walk around with a Medicare card super glued to their hands, and Duttons campaign as weak and underwhelming as it is, hasn't been built on something all Australians are afraid of losing.

On average, Australians use pathology services around 6.4 times per person per year, according to data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). This includes services like blood tests and other lab investigations.

One in every five encounters between patients and general practitioners involving a pathology referral, and one in every two encounters between patients and specialists.

About 70% of medical diagnoses are confirmed by pathology investigations, and around 20% of pathology tests are requested to monitor and manage the progress of a disease or condition, according to the Australian Medical Association, meaning if patients already loath paying out of pocket expenses to see specialists or paying a GP visit gap, what do you suppose might happen if patients are of the view they will be further milked by pathology technicians?

They'll be inclined to economise, will attend fewer specialist and GP consultations, and instead of having the bi- annual blood tests good GPs recomend, they'll scrimp, and have fewer tests, especially when they are already being slogged a gap fee.

Albanese's doing what China's doing, creating policies which discriminate against the working battlers ( Migrants ) and the elderly who will be hit the hardest as they require more pathology, GP and Specialist appointments.

Even in public hospitals, the bill will be generated for all patients who won't be exempt from this blatantly discriminatory and divisive racist ageist and even sexist policy.

Indigenous Australians should be issued with a Gold Medicare card, Immigrants and other less relevant minorities like LGBTQIA etc rainbow Medicare ( or black & white card perhaps?) and regular proletarian class Australians may retain their private health insurance cards and Green Medicare cards.

Different standards of care for different classes, groups of Australians.

Australians like keeping things real, Albo won't be "cool" once confronted with this.
Immigrants will be spooked 👻, to them Universal unconditional health care is enough to make them re- consider their votes.

Labor are proposing a class-based health care model, which will result in many Australians going without essential and potentially life-saving medical care because they'll fear having to make a choice between eating properly, paying their power bills or having adequate medical care.

It's just one more hidden cost of re- electing a dodgy government isn't it.

They won't get the government they re-elect.

They will get a government who has zero regard for already struggling Australians.

Dutton mightn't be overly popular and will likely force all Australians to tighten their belts, but better the Dutton you know, than the one holding a Medicare card in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other. Snip snip!! ✂️

What Labor gives with one hand, always comes with a hidden price tag in the other.

Medicare is now being dismantled by the very Labor party who takes credit for having created it.

They're taking Australians back to the old 1960s and 70s Medibank days.

Progressive and inclusive?🤣
