The total and utter failure of WorkChoices

I haven't posted any charts of unemplyment but it has been a while now since it was introduced. As far as I can tell from the graph, on WC being introduced unemployment got a quick boost boost then went down in the same rate as it had been going down for years before then, until the GFC hit. I defy anyone to show WC made a measurable difference to unemployment. Not a sausage! Edit: that "boost" was something I had seen mentioned, the chart above shows it existed.

What a total abortion of a policy it was. Tony bloody Abbott whinging about having his pay cut to $127,000 after the voters booted him out of his plush Ministerial office. Bastard was happy enough to vote for a policy would see the wages of someone on $27,000 be cut!

Not a single cut to unemployment!

The chart came from the ABS.

Now at the heart of the GFC and unemployment is where it was in about 2004: pretty bloody good! With WC in place jobs and wages would have been slashed further depressing spending and so deepening the recession. Thank god for Labor and the ACTU and all the YRAW and party workers!

Hear hear!

Remember we argued this in the sheep .......er, on another forum once? :)

The ABS data then showed no marked improvement in the period it was in force. Just a long, downward trend in unemployment before, during and after serfchoices. All courtesy of a long-running, pre-existing economic boom.

WC is where it belongs - in the WC :)
