Employment - The 2017 Political Football

Post by Wayne » Tue Jan 31, 2017 2:09 pm

AUSTRALIAN jobs are set to be the political football of 2017.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition leader Bill Shorten will both outline their plans for boosting employment in major speeches this week.
Mr Turnbull is gearing up to make his case for company tax cuts to in a major speech to the National Press Club tomorrow, Fairfax media reports.
Meanwhile, Mr Shorten will deliver a speech to the Press Club today outlining an Australia-first jobs policy he intends to pursue across the year.

A good article. Turnbull probably hasn't got a hope in hell of getting his tax changes through the Senate, and Shorten is just pissing in the wind. This comment of Shorten's made me laugh:

"Mr Shorten will say if elected his Labor government will ensure one in every 10 jobs on a priority infrastructure project will go to an Australian apprentice.
“In the context of the last election — that means at least 2600 apprenticeship places,” Mr Shorten will say.
The Opposition Leader will also reiterate Labor’s stance to deny work visas to overseas employees when an equally-skilled Australian is available."

In 1992, then PM Paul Keating stitched up a deal with the Unions, the TAFEs and the Government to basically axe apprenticeships in favour of competency based training. That basically meant a plumber for instance could go to TAFE, get a National Restricted Electrical Licence( with modules selected for the type of limited electrical work he could undertake) an replace an electric hot water unit without calling in an electrician.
It also meant that Employers only needed to send their "apprentices" to TAFE to do the off the job competency training for their own particular requirements. That move by Keating and others basically ruined the Australian Apprenticeship scheme for years and caused at least a two generation gap in skilled tradesmen. This of course led to a huge decline in the number of skilled "black trade" type tradesmen in Australia and the need for 457 Visas! The position has improved over the past 5 years or so, but we still have nowhere near the amount of apprentices coming up through the system.

Mr Shorten is advised to remember the problem and why it started in the first place

Unemployment is currently 5.8% and rising around 0.1% per month.

Furthermore, only half the jobs being created are full-time jobs.

Whatever is being done about unemployment, it's not enough.

Some major resource projects are winding up which will throw thousands more out of work. Companies are going bankrupt in a number of industries which is destroying more jobs.

Neither the government or the opposition has any rational answers to the unemployment problem.

Leftwhiner received his ALP talking points on queue. Still can't work out that Australia is recovering from the hangover from the ALP.

It takes years to sort out the shit the ALP fucks up Australians with.
The NBN will take decades to fix. Same as the ALP fix for the "GFC"

You fuckwits have no clue.

"Jobs" and "Employment" are just catch phrases for sound bites, regardless of who's making the noises.

Fortunately, soon robots will do everything and everyone will be out of a job.
(except programmers and mechatronic engineers)
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
