China has announced a ban on all ivory trade and processing activities by the end of 2017.
Conservation groups hailed the decision as "historic" and a "game-changer" for the future of elephants.
The move follows a resolution at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) in South Africa in October.
China has the biggest ivory market in the world - some estimates suggest 70% of the world's trade ends up there.

this is the BEST NEWS.. thank thank you CHINA..

As the older Chinese die out the younger ones will take over and I really don't think they have the same views re slaughtering animals to the point of extinction in the hope it will increase their libidos.

Same with the Japanese and whaling.

Most of the young Japanese don't agree with it and the stupid thing is that most of the whale meat the Japanese harvest just goes to waste but they pursue it because of stupid old Japanese traditions. The young ones are catching on and don't like it.

The paleontologists will be happy, because ivory from wooly mammoths dug up out of perma-frost was legit.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
