The Nationals are too comfortable where they are. They wouldn't risk a split from the Liberals because they would have to work too hard to build the party up again. I actually feel a bit sorry for Abbott, but he should know that what goes around comes around. He might feel a little more empathy for Rudd and Gillard now. The media has been nicer to him than they were to Gillard.

He's actually copping heaps from his own party. The media from what I've seen are simply reporting on the steady stream of gossip coming from the party room. A lot of journalists have been quite sympathetic with Abbott.

About as much as anyone knows about the colour of the petticoat worn under the Liberal's skirt. They don't collect many votes these days - and they stand for what? Protecting farmers? Maybe they were useful for that once, but now if they split from the Libs they would more than likely fade into oblivion. The Greens have more empathy with the farmers today than the Nationals.
