Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young has called on the government for inquiry committee members to be allowed to visit the centre as part of the review.

Mr Morrison says it is not up to him to decide who can visit the detention centre because it is run by PNG in accordance with operator G4S, not the Australian government.

He says PNG shouldn't be treated as an Australian colony and he will “respect” its government by letting them handle the matter. The Australian 07/03/2014
