Thanks again Mantra for highlighting that point.
Yes - both parties are responsible. The Coalition had 3 years to rectify the problem and the Labor government had 6 years. Let's see if Abbott does anything about it.

Can you provide the link which says LW academics were responsible for discarding phonics?

There's a lot I could say about the dumbing down of education, but don't have time.

Briefly though, I believe a major part is perverted entitlement mentality of teachers, and that most teachers never grow up.

They spend their entire life in a school environment and so never learn what it's like out of school, in the real world.

A couple of years ago Who wants to be a millionaire? had school kids on. I saw two girls from my school get to $125K and then flunk
because they never knew Aussies fought in the Boer wars. I was appalled history is not taught anymore, and amazed the school principal in the audience didn't know either. Now that's phuked up.

Here in Qld it's hard to find a publicly educated individual under 30 who can read and write properly, and their comprehension is pitiful too.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
