Alhough there have been so many refugees over the past few years - offshore processing would be a kinder deterrant than removing legal funding for those who are genuine and desperate to settle here. In comparison to all the other expenses in deterring asylum seekers - saving $100 million over 4 years is not a large amount considering it involves sorting out those people who are genuine and those who aren't. Abbott is also applying this policy to all 30,000 existing refugees awaiting processing.
The stress these people will go through trying to process their applications without help will be inhumane. If they can't manage it - they'll be sent back to wherever is convenient as they were under the Howard government. Many were sent to Turkey without viable passports and no means of support - others to Pakistan. Those who were sent back to the country who persecuted them had their families killed or tortured.
ASYLUM seekers will be denied free government advice on lodging claims and launching appeals under a controversial Coalition plan to end taxpayer-funded support for boat arrivals.
The scrapping of the service, created to help asylum seekers lodge refugee applications and appeal adverse decisions, would save up to $100 million over the next four years. It would apply not only to new arrivals but to any of the 30,000 asylum seekers currently in Australia who may still be accessing the service.
In the latest addition to Tony Abbott's expanding border protection crackdown, to be released today, those deemed by the Coalition to have arrived illegally would be automatically barred from accessing the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme.

Considering most are economic refugees I have no problems with cutting back on their avenues for appeal. I have no qualms about stopping the legal parasites and welfare handouts when our own people struggle to live day to day and homelessness is on the increase across the country.
Better that than forcing them upon the Papua New Guineans.
Better they go back home as many have been doing. So much for being real refugees.

TPVs are the cruellest thing out and they mean the boats will be full of women and children again as those on TPVs are not eligible for family reunions.

Rubbish, TPVs are a realistic and often preferred visa in refugee situations.
Many genuine refugees would like to return to their own country once the danger is passed. Many do not want to lose their citizenship and do not want to be Australians. Quite understandable in the case of genuine refugees.
